The 2025 Guam Volleyball Federation (GVBF) Boys High School Preseason Volleyball Tournament is set to take place from March 14-16 at Father Duenas Memorial School. Organized by tournament directors Richard Borja, Joseph Aquino Jr. and Ray Mesngon, the event promises an exciting preview of the upcoming high school volleyball season.

“The tournament serves as a valuable opportunity for teams to fine-tune their lineups and test players in different roles. Coaches will be able to experiment with rotations and evaluate team chemistry in a low-risk, high-reward environment,” GVBF stated in a press release. “For players, the tournament offers a stage to showcase their talent ahead of the season while competing in a fun – yet competitive – atmosphere.”

“The GVBF extends its gratitude to Father Duenas Memorial School for hosting the event and acknowledges the generous support of sponsors,” the organization added.

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens. Children under 10 will not be charged.

Beyond team preparations, the GVBF tournament aligns with the federation’s strategic focus on player development. With national team coaches expected to attend, the event will serve as a scouting ground for potential junior and senior national team prospects as Guam looks ahead to upcoming regional competitions.

Additionally, the tournament is part of the GVBF’s initiative to cultivate a highly qualified and certified officiating pool. Since launching an Oceania referee certification course last July, the GVBF has been developing officials through local tournaments and Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam league matches.

“This event will serve as a platform to evaluate, certify and recertify referees, further strengthening the quality of officiating on the island,” GVBF stated.

The tournament features 11 teams, with reigning league champions FD and George Washington High School leading their respective pools. The full lineup includes:

• Pool A: FDMS Friars, Southern High School, Simon Sanchez High School, Notre Dame High School, and John F. Kennedy High School.

• Pool B: GWHS, Okkodo High School, Tiyan High School, Harvest Christian Academy, St. John’s School, and Guam High School.

Matches will be played at The Phoenix Center and The Jungle, culminating in a single-elimination playoff.
