Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day-Lewis may reunite for new film

Paul Thomas Anderson is back to work, and he may be bringing a familiar face with him.

Variety reports the esteemed director is currently working on a script for a 1950s drama set around the New York fashion industry, and that Anderson's There Will Be Blood star Daniel Day-Lewis is in talks to take the lead role.

Pretty notable, considering the particularly selective Day-Lewis hasn't made a film since 2012's Lincoln, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. Before that, he took a three-year break after 2009's musical Nine, loosely inspired by Federico Fellini's 8 1/2; having previously starred in There Will be Blood in 2007.

Anderson is also meeting actresses of Eastern European descent for supporting roles, which could mean pretty much anything in terms of plot here. The project acts as the director's follow-up to 2014's sublimely disjointed, shaggy dog tale Inherent Vice, starring Joaquin Phoenix; who had also previously collaborated with Anderson on 2012's The Master.

Since then, Anderson's been busy with the world of music videos; directing Joanna Newsom's "Divers" and "Sapokanikan", alongside Radiohead's "Daydreaming".
