Sir: The Government's 1997 White Paper on Eliminating World Poverty says: "We shall reduce the debts of developing countries to levels they can cope with". Seventy-five per cent of Honduras' agriculture has been wiped out by Hurricane Mitch. Our government needs to ensure that Honduras' pounds 4bn debt is cancelled - otherwise the burden of this debt will cripple attempts to cope with this disaster. Aid alone is not enough.
