Montreal indie band Arcade Fire holds its spot as the most popular act on The Hype Machine, while Brooklyn band The Drums remains in second and Swedish pop singer Robyn moves into third. Meanwhile, Antony and the Johnsons make their debut appearance in the top ten on August 10.
Swedish electropop singer-songwriter Robyn released Body Talk Pt. 1 in June - her first album since 2005's Robyn. The album's lead single, "Dancing on My Own," became a hit dance single in several countries worldwide. On September 5, the artist is due to release a follow-up album, Body Talk Pt. 2, and bloggers are passing around the track "U Should Know Better" from the upcoming LP. The track is a collaboration with rapper Snoop Dogg, with whom Robyn has previously collaborated on "Sexual Eruption" and "Bum Like You."
Antony and the Johnsons are a British chamberpop/cabaret act led by Antony Hegarty and featuring music and visual art by him and his collaborators. The band's 2005 album I Am A Bird Now features guest performances by Lou Reed, Boy George, Rufus Wainwright, and Devendra Banhart and won the UK's prestigious Mercury Prize. That album's follow-up, 2009's The Crying Light, hit number one on the European Billboard chart. The band's latest LP, Swanlights, is due out in October, and meanwhile an EP called Thank You For All Your Love will be out on August 24. Bloggers are passing around the EP's title track, which Guerolitomusic (guerolitomusic.com) calls "beautifully orchestrated."
