Soul Jazz continues its unending commitment to the recesses of CS Dodd's back catalogue.
This comp has no over-arching theme, as they tend not to: the 17 cuts cover the history of the label from Jackie Opel's ska in 1964 to Freddie McGregor at the end of the 1970s. As always, the foggy-foggy Studio One sound is the star: this is music from another place, time and possibly dimension, some of it distinguished, some less so, all of it worthy to be praised.
