Motorists have been warned to expect "the worst driving conditions imaginable" by the AA as snow is forecast to return to much of Britain today.
The problem has been made worse by the number of potholes, created by the recent snow and ice, which is expected to pass the record reported last winter.
The AA cautioned drivers to expect "a potent mix of weather conditions". A spokesman added: "Many roads are on borrowed time, and that is shortened when the weather is severe." The snowfall is expected to start in the South.
