Howard Paul, veterinarian and inventor, died Stanford California 10 February, aged 59. Inventor of the Robodoc - a 5ft-long robotic arm inbuilt with a high-speed drill and computer technology, designed to help doctors in surgery. Said to be more accurate than a doctor's hands, it was used for the first time in human surgery in a hip replacement operation last year.
