A former consultant who delivered David Cameron's youngest daughter is being investigated over the treatment he provided to more than 1,500 female patients in Cornwall.

A major probe has been launched into obstetrician Kenneth Jones, also known as Rob Jones, following concerns raised by staff at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) said that 1,574 gynaecological patients treated by the consultant over the last two-and-a-half years have been contacted by the hospital.

Lezli Boswell, chief executive of the trust, said that Mr Jones was no longer employed by the trust and had not worked at the hospital since May 2012.

Mr Jones delivered the Prime Minister's baby Florence Cameron in August 2010. Downing Street said last night that they were aware of the investigation, but that Samantha Cameron was not one of the women contacted as part of the probe.
