Mandela throws a party

Johannesburg - President Nelson Mandela celebrated his 77th birthday a day early by treating 2,000 children to food and clothes at an old gold mine outside Johannesburg. He gave more than 1m rand (pounds 200,000) received in donations to his Children's Fund, to which he contributes a third of his salary. Reuter
