Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was sent off in extraordinary circumstances on Sunday against Manchester United, lasting just 38 seconds before his stamp on Ander Herrera saw him pick up the eighth red card of his career.
In total, two of those reds have come against Merseyside rivals Everton, and two have now come against Manchester United.
Gerrard told Sky Sports after the 2-1 defeat by United: "I think I’ve tried to avoid his tackle and I’ve reacted when I’ve seen his studs showing. But I’ve been in the game long enough to know when you do that with 45 minutes to play and a great opportunity to get back into the game, I take full responsibility.
“I’ve reacted to the initial tackle, but I don’t want to say too much more. I wanted to apologise to the supporters and I take full responsibility for the result.”

The 34-year-old has a maximum of six Premier League matches left before he heads off to the MLS to play for LA Galaxy.
