Emmanuel Adebayor's proposed switch to West Ham fell through due to a grudge held by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, according to reports.

The Togo striker looked set to exit Tottenham on deadline day with a host of clubs keen to sign the out-of-favour player.

QPR and Crystal Palace were among them and Spurs were willing to contribute towards Adebayor's wages. However the striker wanted to join West Ham but according to reports Levy was unwilling to contribute to his wages if he went to Upton Park.

The two clubs have fallen out in recent years, mainly due to the row over which one of them would occupy the Olympic Stadium. West Ham won that bid but as a result couldn't sign Adebayor. That West Ham are directly competing with Tottenham for a place in Europe was also a factor.

With the move blocked the 30-year-old opted to remain at White Hart Lane and fight for his place rather than turn to one of the other options open to him. His contract runs until 2016.
