England centre Sam Burgess has left Bath with immediate effect.
The ex-Bradford and South Sydney Rabbitoh’s superstar switched codes just twelve months ago but is now set for a controversial return to rugby league.
Burgess has had a turbulent time in Union and, despite initially being greeted with much fanfare, his selection for England’s Rugby World Cup squad gained a huge amount of criticism.
Brandished “naïve” and “out of his depth” by former Irish centre Gordon D’Arcy, the Dewsbury born battering ram was widely derided for his international performances.
Leeds Rhinos chairman Gary Hetherington has announced his interest in a player that Bath allegedly paid £500,000 earlier this year.
In the coming days more Super League clubs will be sure to register their interest.
A potential return to former club South Sydney, where his brothers, George, Tom and Luke play, is almost certainly on the cards.
