The Southampton midfielder, Chris Marsden, is to have a hernia operation and may be out of action until the new year. The 30-year-old has completed just one full game this season after breaking a bone in his foot during Southampton's first week of competitive matches.

Bolton have agreed a one-month loan deal with the Spanish side Compostela for their 33-year-old French midfielder, Franck Passi, who is out of contract.
