20 flood-prone structures in Carolina Beach to be elevated using FEMA funds

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM) has announced it will use funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to elevate 20 buildings in Carolina Beach.

According to the Town of Carolina Beach, the structures chosen are in areas prone to frequent flooding and have repeatedly experienced flood damage over the years. The elevating project will provide 100-year flood protection.

The following properties are set to be elevated two feet above base flood elevation on continuous block piers or pilings:

  • 400 block of Columbia Ave.
  • 500 through 1500 blocks of Canal Drive
  • 500 through 700 blocks of N Carolina Beach Ave.
  • 200 block of N Lake Park Boulevard
  • 1100 block of N Lake Park Boulevard
  • 200 block of Georgia Ave.
  • 1600 block of Snapper Lane
  • 100 block of Maryland Ave.
  • 300 block of Florida Ave.

All construction will be conducted according to state and local building code requirements.
