Deputies investigating house fire in Whiteville

COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - Deputies are investigating a house fire in Whiteville, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Responders were able to extinguish a fire at Batten Sasser Road. According to CCSO, Fire Marshal Blackman asked that deputies help with a cause of fire report. Information was relayed to detectives who went to the scene and reportedly found no signs of suspicious activity.
CCSO says the matter was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division.
The incident is still under investigation.
