Seven years ago today, 44 countries signed the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area. Today, 54 have signed, 48 have ratified, and AfCFTA is shaping Africa’s trade reality. With the legal foundation in place, AfCFTA is expanding market access, strengthening trade corridors, and unlocking investment opportunities. Key tools, including PAPSS, the AfCFTA Adjustment Fund, and the E-Tariff Book, are making trade more seamless. The Agreement, along with its protocols on Trade in Goods, Trade in Services, Investment, Intellectual Property Rights, Digital Trade, and Women and Youth in Trade, provides a rules-based framework for economic transformation. The Dispute Settlement Mechanism ensures transparency and investor confidence across Africa. AfCFTA is more than a trade agreement. It is Africa’s path to self-reliance, economic sovereignty, and sustainable growth. We remain committed to working with like-minded partners to accelerate implementation and create a thriving single market for all. The work is far from over. Implementation remains our priority. Africa’s trade future is here. Happy 7-year anniversary to the AfCFTA, the most rapidly ratified instrument in the history of the African Union.

Just launched the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Registry to enable a global market for #SAF aiming to accelerate the transition to ✈️ #netzero emissions by 2050. The Registry is now live under the Civil Aviation Decarbonization Organization (CADO) management. The Registry was developed in consultation with #airlines, #government authorities, #OEMs, #fuel producers & suppliers and corporate #travel management companies. With over 30 early users already in the process of onboarding and ready to use the system, the Registry is underpinned by a methodology which provides a consistent approach to accounting for the environmental benefits of SAF purchases, regardless of location. "Governments must reallocate their direct support given to fossil fuel producers in favor of renewable energy production. The precedent of the wind and solar energy markets is the example to follow, and this without any further delay,” said Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA’s Senior Vice President Sustainability and Chief Economist. 📌 Details: https://bit.ly/43xVSyI Participating parties to the early onboarding ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ Air Canada Airbus AIRCO American Airlines All Nippon Airways A.P. Aviation AFRICA Summit & Exhibition returns to Kigali, Rwanda after three years, officially hosted by the Government of Rwanda, the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority, RwandAir Ltd, and Rwanda Airports Company (RAC). Under the theme “Collaborating to unlock Africa’s aviation growth”, the annual event brings together leaders from government, civil aviation authorities, airlines, airports, manufacturers, MRO providers and business aviation, plus suppliers from across the whole industry spectrum. Speakers from across the industry including CEOs of Africa’s leading airlines, will be sharing their plans and concerns, at the event. Host airline, RwandAir’s chief executive Yvonne Manzi Makolo will be revealing her strategies for their development and growth, particularly in line with the new Kigali international airport at Bugesera. Dar Al-Handasah (commonly known as Dar) has been a key player in the airport design, engineering, and project management aspects, and the company will be a platinum sponsor of the event, meeting supply chain, and discussing the development on stage. This year’s Aviation AFRICA Summit & Exhibition sees an in-depth look at the advanced aviation mobility, with the collaboration of the African Drone Forum with Ethiopian Airlines explaining more about its ambition to build an air taxi network in the region. While regulators like the RCAA have already introduced guidelines for the newest of aviation models, the regulators will be on show with African Civil Aviation Commission AFCAC secretary general Adefunke Adeyemi, a panel of civil aviation DGs, and other industry specialists from ATM to look at some of the issues – including unblocking barriers to the SAATM initiative to open Africa’s skies. The Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) CEO Aaron Munetsi, will bring together a panel that spans the continent to address the geopolitical challenges – as well as the internal frustrations – that hamper “the growth of aviation. “Collaboration is a critical success factor in the airline industry,” Munetsi said. How that applies in today’s world will be a key point in his session. Safety, risk management, air traffic management, wildlife threats, sustainability and of course MRO will be offering great debate and with the partnerships and support from organisations like the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) and the African Business Aviation Association (AfBAA), the speakers will have a lot to offer with real issues being frankly debated. Aircraft manufacturers Airbus, Boeing and Embraer predict strong growth in African air travel and will be at the event to give their insight. “The Aviation AFRICA Summit has developed into the most forthright and broad event for Africa’s aviation industry. Networking is superb with a lot of opportunities for suppliers to meet with customers and authorities,” said Summit chairman Alan Peaford, MBE. **Aviation must never be a vehicle for human trafficking.** At the International Civil Aviation Organization we are taking decisive steps to help States and air operators prevent the misuse of air transport by traffickers. Human trafficking exists in every industry, and aviation is no exception. That’s why we’ve published new guidance focused on actionable steps to identify and prevent trafficking risks—especially within air operator supply chains. This work supports both international law and our broader commitment to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially the goals of eradicating trafficking and promoting decent work for all. We encourage all States, civil aviation authorities, and stakeholders across the air transport sector to adopt and share this guidance. Grateful for the collaboration with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights as we push forward—together—for a safer, more just aviation industry. #ICAO #HumanRights #AviationSafety #UNSDGs #EndHumanTrafficking
