- Astra 1K was a communications satellite manufactured by Alcatel Space for SES. When it was launched on 25 November 2002, it was the largest civilian communications satellite ever launched, with a mass of 5,250 kg (11,570 lb). Intended to replace the Astra 1B satellite and provide backup for 1A, 1C and 1D at the Astra 19.2°E orbital position, the Blok DM3 upper stage of the Proton-K launch vehicle failed to function properly, leaving the satellite in an unusable parking orbit. - Astra 1K war ein Kommunikationssatellit, der von für SES hergestellt wurde. Bei seinem Start am 25. November 2002 war er mit einer Masse von 5250 kg der größte jemals gestartete zivile Kommunikationssatellit. Er sollte den Satelliten Astra 1B ersetzen und als Backup für die Satelliten 1A, 1C und 1D auf der Orbitalposition Astra 19,2°E dienen. Die Oberstufe der Proton-K-Trägerrakete funktionierte jedoch nicht ordnungsgemäß, so dass der Satellit auf einer unbrauchbaren Parkbahn zurückblieb. Satelita został zbudowany przez Alcatel Space w oparciu o model Spacebus-3000B3S i w chwili startu był największym cywilnym satelitą, jaki wówczas zbudowano.
