El diagrama esquemàtic no mostra geogràficament on es troben les estacions sinó les posicions relatives de les estacions al llarg de les línies, les connexions entre elles i les zones tarifàries. Die erste schematische Karte wurde 1931 von Harry Beck entworfen. Seitdem wurde sie beständig erweitert, unter anderem um die Docklands Light Railway, London Overground, TfL Rail, Tramlink und die Seilbahn London Cable Car. Im Jahr 2006 wurde der Liniennetzplan in die Top Ten der britischen Design-„Ikonen“ des 20. Il s'agit d'un plan schématique plutôt qu'une carte, sans représentation géographique mais plutôt des relations ; cela aboutit à une distorsion importante de la position réelle des tracés des lignes et de la position des stations, mais correspond à l’ordre exact des stations et les correspondances avec les diverses autres lignes du réseau, ainsi que la répartition selon les zones. - The Tube map (sometimes called the London Underground map) is a schematic transport map of the lines, stations and services of the London Underground, known colloquially as "the Tube", hence the map's name. The first schematic Tube map was designed by Harry Beck in 1931. Since then, it has been expanded to include more of London's public transport systems, including the Docklands Light Railway, London Overground, the Elizabeth line, Tramlink, the London Cable Car and Thameslink. As a schematic diagram, it shows not the geographic locations but the relative positions of the stations, lines, the stations' connective relations and fare zones. The basic design concepts have been widely adopted for other such maps around the world and for maps of other sorts of transport networks and even conceptual schematics. A regularly-updated version of the map is available from the official Transport for London website. In 2006, the Tube map was voted one of Britain's top 10 design icons which included Concorde, Mini, Supermarine Spitfire, K2 telephone box, World Wide Web and the AEC Routemaster bus. Since 2004, Art on the Underground has been commissioning artists to create covers for the pocket Tube map. (en)

- Mapa metra w Londynie (ang. Tube map) – schemat linii metra w Londynie, mający ułatwić korzystanie z niego pasażerom. Założenia schematu, w szczególności porzucenie wiernego odwzorowania geografii i skali na rzecz uproszczonej ilustracji topologii sieci, opracowane zostały w latach 30. XX wieku przez Henry’ego Becka i pozostają niezmienne do dnia dzisiejszego. Sama mapa poddana została od tego czasu wielu modyfikacjom, odzwierciedlającym rozwój sieci metra, której rozmiar uległ podwojeniu. Mapa zrewolucjonizowała standardy informacji pasażerskiej, a przyjęte w niej założenia wykorzystywane są w większości współczesnych map komunikacyjnych. Za publikację mapy odpowiedzialne jest Transport for London, jednostka zarządzająca transportem publicznym na terenie Londynu. Wydawanych jest kilka wersji mapy.
