Comedian George Gobel was a big star at the time, and what a treat to get him on the show. He was also headlining Las Vegas. The guy was everywhere.
It's one of those "I want to have some quality time alone..." episodes. "Lonesome George," as he was nicknamed, happens to be doing a benefit in town and takes refuge at the Douglas house! A story that had endless possibilities, however the most hilarious part is Steve finding George sleeping in his bed with his pajamas! Was that a takeoff on Little Red Riding Hood? True, Fred MacMurray was taller than George, so the pajamas shouldn't have fit him. Whatever, just sit back and enjoy the insanity and everybody's stunned faces.
By the way... is Bub or William Frawley wearing the same bathrobe he wore on I LOVE LUCY? Looks just like old Fred Mertz there. So many memories.
Great story packed with catchy dialogue, thanks to James B. Allardice, who also wrote for Gobel's classic tv show. He turned in many good scripts for the show, unfortunately his career cut short by a fatal heart attack in 1966. Series director Peter Tewksbury just let the camera roll on this legendary comedian. I'll bet many scenes were done in a single take. George Gobel went on to inspire many new standup comics.
May also remind you of all the escapades Lucille Ball had on her tv show with celebs who happened to drop by the apartment or house, which may have inspired Allardice.
If you're a movie buff, look for silent film star Betty Bronson, playing Mrs. Butler. Betty, who retired in the 1930s, began a new career on tv.
Don't miss this. The pick of SEASON 1. Remastered dvd box set with a classic color cover. The first five seasons are on dvd. No word yet if seasons 6 through 12 will be released on blu ray. We are all hoping. Thanks to METV for running every single episode, and there's a bunch!

- GoofsSteve Douglas is much taller and thinner than Mr George Gobel so how could his pajamas have fit him? It would have been better if Bub had lent a pair of his own pajamas to Mr Gobel.
