Excited for the ALVA10 data team to present their work on how we can make blood based cancer screening (MCED) more palatable for payers, at ISPOR today. In the US and globally, we have rising rates of cancer in younger populations, being driven largely by the obesity epidemic and environmental factors. People born in 1980 are 4X more likely to get cancer than people born in 1950. Colon cancer will be the #1 cause of death in people age 20-49 by 2030, but current guidelines recommend screening start at age 45. Screening rates in the under 55 population are... not good. In the US, that means cancer becomes more of a commercial payer issue every year, yet all the focus is on Medicare. Payers are loathe to pay for additional cancer screening- because their budgets are annual. We can use data, informatics, and genetic information to determine patients who are at elevated risk based on a variety of factors, including genetics, family history, obesity, smoking, and other factors. If we applied blood based cancer screening (sometimes called MCED- multi-cancer early detection) to the population stratified based on risk, instead of age cutoffs that are based on averages, we would 1) detect more relevant cancer earlier, 2) reduce the total cost of cancer care, and 3) improve survival. We know a lot of risk factors that are driving the increased rates of cancer in people under 55. We need to apply that information to screening strategy. With the collaboration of Jada Fund of Funds, our newly launched report delves into the methodologies used by venture capitalists and provides insights gathered from seasoned fund managers and investors across the MENA region. Key Valuation Methodologies 1. Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) Analysis: - DCF Method: This involves estimating the company's future cash flows and discounting them back to their present value using an appropriate discount rate. - Challenges: In the case of startups, projecting future cash flows can be highly speculative due to the limited historical data and market volatility. 2. In my interview with Asharq Business اقتصاد الشرق, I discussed the crucial role of the private sector in combating desertification and driving environmental initiatives. We explored how innovation, particularly AI, remote sensing and automation can make a significant impact, as well as the importance of financing, and CSR initiatives.   I also highlighted the tremendous efforts deployed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in making #COP16 a resounding success with significant activities on the ground, and over 50,000 registered attendees to date - setting a record for UNCCD conferences. Saudi Arabia’s localization plan is reshaping consultancy sector - and more beyond The Kingdom has pioneered telemedicine and e-health services, enabling virtual consultations and remote surgeries to reach the farthest communities. Plan a huge opportunity for Saudi Arabia to boost local jobs and reduce its reliance on foreign workers As Saudi Arabia embarks on a journey aimed at boosting job opportunities for citizens, the localization plan for consultancy professions and businesses plays a crucial role. In October 2022, the Kingdom’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development issued a decision mandating that from the end of March 2024, 40 percent of workers in firms in this sector must be Saudi nationals. The decision targeted all professions in the sector, most notably financial advisory specialists, business advisers, and cybersecurity advisory specialists, as well as project management managers, engineers, and specialists. This targeted localization, or Saudization, is part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development and supervising bodies, represented by the Ministry of Finance, the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority, the Expenditure and Project Efficiency Authority, and the Human Resources Development Fund. The collaboration aims to elevate the presence of cadres in the sector and boost the percentage of Saudis, contributing to the development of local content in this strategic sector. It also seeks to organize the labor market. The ministry is meant to support private sector establishments in several ways, including helping them in hiring Saudis by supporting the training and qualification of employees, as well as supporting employment procedures and other initiatives. On a similar note, the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority is required to follow up on the commitment to include Saudization requirements in consulting contracts. It has also issued a guide that clarifies the details of localizing the consultancy sector and professions, and the mechanism of implementing it. Reshaping the consultancy sector Azeem Zainulbhai, co-founder and chief product officer at talent-on-demand platform Outsized, believes the Saudization rules in the sector will help keep more money in the Kingdom, even though training costs could increase. “This move means less reliance on experts from abroad in key fields like finance, project management and cybersecurity. Essentially, it’s about creating more jobs for Saudis in important, well-paying sectors and making sure they're trained for these roles,” he told Arab News. “The end objective is to get better at handling projects and business dealings that are specific to Saudi culture and regulations, stimulate private sector growth, and foster a knowledge-based economy ultimately making companies more efficient and competitive globally,” the co-founder emphasized.
