* Based on a light novel series written by Kouzuki Hinowa.
Inaba Yuushi's parents died in his first year of middle school, and he moved in with his relatives. Though they did care for him, he could tell he was a burden. After he graduated, he happily prepared to move to a high school with a dormitory. Unfortunately, the dormitory burned to the ground before he could move in! Yuushi doesn't want to live with his grudging relatives, but it's rough finding lodging as an orphaned student with little money. He finally finds a room in a nice old building which seems too good to be true.
The catch is that it is a Monster House, a place where humans and supernatural creatures--ghosts, mononoke, etc.-- live together. Another high schooler lives there, a cute girl named Akine, and she's completely unfazed by the monsters. In fact, she can even exorcise evil spirits! Yuushi's high school life just got much stranger than he ever bargained for!

Not sure yet, if there's nothing special in this anime, or maybe everything was special so I'm not able to point anything out... It felt like 'slice of life' with some mystery in. Not similar to Natsume, but left the same warm feeling for me (especially that calm and relaxing atmosphere). Also, it's trying to show and teach some wisdom (educational elements on many different fields - social, psychological, cultural, even all those food names seemed interesting) f.x. about friendship, communication to other people, tricks to control crowd, etc. In the end I found myself grinning all the time to the screen while watching it.

Pretty relaxed, a rather decent watch overall, with plenty of those 'wisdom of the elders' sort of teachable moments. Although high school focused, it's a decent sort of coming of age. The MC really does feel like he progresses into becoming... more of himself. (ie: growing up). Although the production values are pretty modern, the story does feel a bit dated. I can imagine this one being a lot more popular ten years ago as opposed to now. Some of the comedic elements are a little bit too childishly whimsical, so they sort of fell flat for me, but I enjoyed this show for its overall ambiance, not for its particular plot or comedic elements.

It is fun to watch, warm hearted and simple story. A lot of interesting characters and friends. Strongly recommend to give this a try.

I started watching this show since I like stories about friendship, mythology and daily life.
The music is nice, the character design as well. The interaction between most characters didn't disappoint - especially most Youkai are really cool!
So the first half of the anime was really good to watch and I couldn't wait to watch new eps fast enough. It took a downturn for me from ep 15 on thanks to two annoying female characters which I couldn't like from beginning to end since I got really annoyed just seeing them.... They brought unnecessary drama to the series.
The last few eps were good again. I especially enjoyed the last ep which was one of the best from the whole series.
All in all it was an okayish watch and I wouldn't mind watching more of it.
