Without a doubt cliche.
Yuuta Morisaki lives life. Among the many girls and boys that he develops relationships with, it seems like he can never really get close to Hina Kusonose, who happens to be fond of him. The summer festival is approaching, and these two soulmates begin their search to find each other.
I think the greatest charm of this story is the idea of true love at a young age. Quite often this idea is played out in TV entertainment, so I'm quite sure anyone who has watched TV is used to the concept. This story doesn't originate any new idea or concept of loving someone, but it attempts to grasp that feeling of young love, without losing depth. Unfortunately the loss is a story altogether, with many themes quickly crammed into 3 episodes which should have spread across an entire season.
Animation. Pretty nice! I like Kusonose's blush, and the character designs are very plushy looking. This anime art concept is implied in many other contemporary animations; perhaps it is a mixture of Gundam SEED and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, keeping the rich, solid tones of complexion, but not losing any quality in the backgrounds or detailed scenes.
The weakness comes from the poor sequence. Sometimes the talking or movements of characters were a little odd or choppy, or sometimes the animation would look absolutely spectacular, and then at another time somewhat average. This fluctuation in quality gets somewhat irritating, so I couldn't give this more than a 7 for its efforts.
True love.
Well as I said, True Love Story has several little stories surrounding one big event, and too much has to be assumed in order to put all of the flashbacks together with the present. Character development somewhats sloppy. I couldn't take any of the girls except Kusunose - they all had some sort of flirtiness that didn't make sense at all with Morisaki, and they never seemed to be serious. Morisaki's development isn't great either, but I can give them all a hand for at least completing the story and rounding out the main characters before the OVA ended.
Not too great with the audio.
I can't really say the sound is good or bad. The seiyuu are adequate, although some of them were annoying or monotonous enough to lose interest. The music in this entire anime is boring to me, but if anyone else likes it, they like it. Completely up to the tastes of the watcher. :-)
A good quick watch.
Having had to wait months or the last episode, I completely forgot about this one during that course of time. When I watched the third episode, I considered that one alone worth more than the first two episodes, so the series doesn't lose with a weak ending, to say in the least.
As for rewatchability - scratch that off the "to do" list - as a single watch its great when you're bored or trying to conquer another title, but otherwise it's just a waste of time.
The description says this anime bases off of a dating simulator, although the story in itself contrasts with the idea of "a date" and behaves more like a silly drama.
