I really enjoyed watching this movie, which was one of the best, and IMO actually the single best of the Dragon Ball movies.
Story:
It's actually somewhat interesting. There's a lot more emphasis on the importance of what's going on, and showing the suffering that is taking place than usual, and having relatively little attention being paid to power levels is a nice change of pace. Watching the series I had been curious about Trunks' origin, and this did a very good job laying out what happened in his timeline. It kept things interesting with good pace and it effectively created a strong contrast to the regular world of DBZ, finally adding a bit of depth to a series which all too often lacked it.
Character:
OK job here. Trunks is the main character, and the story is really all about him. It'd have been nice to get more than the cursory treatment that Gohan, Bulma and the Androids get, but it was undoubtedly impossible given the short length of time that this was given.
Animation / Sound:
About average for DBZ, which means about average for its time. This is a bit better done than the usual stuff, but it was also done later. Sound was fine, the same team as usual, and the same quality as usual.
Value:
I already have watched it quite a few times, so it's a big thumbs up in that department for me.
Enjoyment:
I really liked this piece. It wasn't as much fun as the typical DBZ episode, but it wasn't trying to be. It was a different approach to the DBZ universe, and ultimately it worked very well.
