Kuri Ippei was born in Kyoto, Japan. He was a mangaka and anime director. His real name was Yoshida Toyoharu (吉田豊治) and he is the founder of animation studio Tatsunoko Production together with his brothers.
In 1987 he became the third generation representative director of Tatsunoko Production, following his brothers. He retired from the post and left the management of the studio in 2005.
