Tanigawa Nagaru was born December 19, 1970 in Hyogo Prefecture, in the Kinki region of Japan. He is a graduate of the law school at Kwansei Gakuin University. He is best known as the author of the Suzumiya Haruhi light novels for which he won the grand prize at eighth annual Sneaker Awards and which have been adapted as an anime television series.
Though all of Tanigawa's light novel series have been on hiatus for several years, he started working on a manga series titled Kagerou Meikyuu; the first bound volume was released on in August 2009.
