Earth Overshoot Day: Using Resources Sustainably 🌍 🌱 Today marks Earth Overshoot Day in Austria – the date when humanity has used more natural resources than our planet can regenerate in a year. This is a wake-up call to drive sustainable solutions forward. At K1-MET GmbH, we are conducting intensive research on industrial decarbonization technologies to reduce resource consumption and minimize the carbon footprint of the steel industry. Through CO2 capture, sector coupling, hydrogen technologies, and digital optimization, we are developing innovative approaches for climate-neutral steelmaking. Our goal: making the metallurgical industry fit for the future – using research to make processes more efficient, climate-friendly and resource-conserving. Every contribution counts – together, we can push Earth Overshoot Day further into the future. #K1MET #research #forschung #earthovershootday #sustainability #decarbonization

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new peer-reviewed paper in Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B, co-authored by Daniel Kavić of K1-MET GmbH. The article entitled “A Hybrid Update of the Fe-Si System by DSC, Thermodynamic Modeling and Statistical Learning from Ladle Refining Data of Electrical Steels” presents a refined assessment of the Fe-Si system through a combination of Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), thermodynamic modeling within the CALPHAD framework, and data-driven methods. This research demonstrates how hybrid approaches – integrating process data from steel production with traditional laboratory methods – can enhance thermodynamic modeling. The findings contribute to improved heat management and process control in producing electrical steels.
