The kick-off of the World Venture Forum 2024 was a complete success. At the picturesque Tomschy Alm, 6 excellent speakers talked about Crypto ETFs and how they are driving the acceptance and spread of blockchain technology. ECB vs Bitcoin: vol 4 👊💥 Last week, the European Central Bank (ECB) released a paper claiming that early Bitcoin adopters are stealing economic value from latecomers. You can find the paper here 👇 The narrative presented in this paper is one of the most aggressive towards Bitcoin as a tool, and it's now clear that central bank economists see it as a threat to be attacked by any means. Let's quickly recap the stages and attacks on Bitcoin: 🔴 2010: Won't work 🔴 2015: Too risky 🔴 2021: Bad for the environment 🔴 2024: Not fair (ECB) Instead of studying #Bitcoin as a technological paradigm shift similar to the Internet, the authors introduce the argument that its "early adopters" are "increasing their real wealth and consumption" at the expense of latecomers. They continue by reaching the central point of the paper: advocating for legislation "to prevent bitcoin prices from rising or to see them disappear altogether" to avoid "the division of society." The authors never present or study the reason that has driven 15 years of #adoption and development of this tool, but focus only on a few points to support a thesis that is already wrong from the start. Bitcoin is simply distributed software and the first digital hard asset 🟠 The interesting thing is to understand why the authors haven't studied years and decades of bank bailouts, stealing from citizens who don't receive the distribution of newly printed money but only suffer its consequences 🏦 But the real question is: why attack a free tool? If the ECB did its job of maintaining monetary stability, perhaps no one in Europe would worry about Bitcoin. Right? What do you think?

FINMA has introduced new regulatory guidelines that significantly impact the issuance of stablecoins in Switzerland. Here’s a few details that I want to emphasize: 1. Banking License or Guarantee: Stablecoin issuers are now required to either obtain a banking license or secure a guarantee from the bank. This represents a huge barrier for many startups and innovators in the crypto space, potentially stopping new projects in early stages. 2. Mandatory Identification: All stablecoin holders must be identified, which goes against the core principles of decentralized finance (DeFi). This move towards centralization challenges the anonymity and decentralization that are foundational to the crypto industry. 3. Highlighted Risks: FINMA emphasizes the increased risks of money laundering and the potential reputational damage to the financial sector as reasons for these more strict actions. While the intention behind these regulations might be to protect the financial system and ensure transparency, the approach seems to be too restrictive. The crypto industry thrives on innovation and flexibility, and such heavy-handed regulations could drive entrepreneurs and innovators to more crypto-friendly regions like Abu Dhabi or Dubai, which are rapidly becoming new hubs for blockchain growth. Switzerland was perceived as a "crypto paradise," but with these new regulations, it risks becoming a regulatory nightmare. We must strive for balanced regulations that protect without stifling innovation. Bitcoin is down on a classic low volume bear raid over a U.S. shortened trading hours + holiday twofer. The reason? Zee Germans! Yes, the German government has sold over $434 million worth of Bitcoin and has around $2.4 billion to go (in theory). Oh, and the Mt. Gox receiver is distributing all the cryptocurrencies back to the former clients. Could this really be the end? If the Germans hit the tape with 42,274 Bitcoin all at once, the price will nuke. Same if all the Mt. Gox clients sell all their holdings at the exact same time. None of that will happen. We’re still in a bull market, in my opinion. The charts look awful, but fundamentals continue to fall into place. To wit, the EU just set the stage for regulated stablecoins.
