How many startup founders can claim the nation's biggest bank chased them to become a major shareholder and ongoing partner? Back in 2021, CBA took a large share in up-and-coming telco Tangerine dual-branded as More Telecom - to integrate telco services into its customer offering. Since then, the strategy has resulted in exponential growth for the telco disruptor. And the partnership with the Commonwealth Bank is still going strong. Andrew Branson CEO, explains how the company manages to provide affordable connectivity and Aussie-based customer service, challenging the likes of Aussie Broadband. Listen for why the company is re-branding and for the next big drivers of growth.

An update from our founder...
Five years ago today, in the middle of a COVID lockdown, we somehow went live with ausbiz. We couldn't have guests in the studio and some of our streaming platform hadn't finished being built yet. It was crazy. I'd like to say the years since have been easier but in truth it's been a rollercoaster; lots of good times and big wins, but just as many tough times and hard decisions. Coincidentally, two of our biggest achievements have cone in the last week. Firstly, Simon Van Es and the team at ausbiz capital went live with their first deal, securing stock for our members in the oversubscribed Imricor equity raise. Lots more exciting stuff on the horizon for this business. Secondly, this weekend our AI video product was deployed; premium users on the Marketech trading platform are now receiving short videos of stock analysis cut from the ausbiz live stream. We've been working on this for 18 months so to see it live in its first iteration is pretty cool. I'll drop a story from Startup Daily in the comments. Thank you... 💡 To the thousands of finance professionals who join us to talk markets each day, especially our regular guests. 🤝 To our partners, new and old, but especially those which have been there from the start Cboe Asia-Pacific Iress nabtrade and IG Australia. ⭐ To the team, you make it look easy but I know it's not. You are stars!

EVs or combustion? Smartgroup is seeing growth in both, though electric vehicle were a solid driver of new car lease orders, accounting for 44% of the segment in calendar 2024. Smartgroup CFO Jason King says the group's refreshed strategy is paying dividends, allowing Smartgroup to differentiate itself from the competition, which has led to client wins. After divesting "subscale" businesses, Jason says the focus is firmly on simplifying the business and aligning key segments around the Smartgroup brand; listen to this interview for the details.
