Cancer Australia is a portfolio agency within the Health Portfolio. It was established to benefit all Australians who are affected by cancer, and their families and carers. Cancer Australia works to reduce the impact of cancer and improve the wellbeing of those diagnosed by ensuring that evidence informs cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and supportive care. Cancer Australia is a specialist agency providing leadership in cancer control across all cancers and across the continuum of care. Cancer Australia builds the evidence base, analyses, interprets and translates the latest scientific cancer research and data to inform policy and practice, and to provide information and expert advice on cancer control to governments, health professionals and the community.

    We’re proud to announce the recipients of the First Nations Cancer Scholarship in partnership with Cancer Australia. 🎉 This scholarship offers Indigenous health professionals and researchers the chance to develop specialist skills and expertise in the cancer field and make lasting changes to the health and wellbeing of First Nations communities. The five recipients are: 🖤 Brodie Seymour - Balarnu, Waluwarra and Wangkayujuru man, who is studying a Doctor of Medicine at Griffith University. 🖤 Eden Slicer - Gundungurra woman, who is studying a Doctor of Medicine at the University of New South Wales. 🖤 Kayla Vitale - Ngarkat woman, who is studying a Doctor of Medicine at Flinders University. 🖤 Kasarina (Kas) Mann - Kulburri-warra clan of the Kuku Yalanji nation, Guugu Yimidthirr, Yidnji and Barbarum Nations woman, who is studying a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. 🖤 Khwanruethai Ngampromwongse - from the Wiradjuri and Ngemba Wayilwan nations, who is completing a PhD at Australian National University.   • The Australian Government has released the National Framework for Genomics in Cancer Control, marking a significant step toward improved cancer outcomes through personalised cancer care. The Framework aims to support people affected by cancer to benefit from cancer genomic testing and genomic-guided treatment and care. It will assist health professionals, researchers, health services and policymakers incorporate genomics within optimal care, in a way that is consistent, safe, high-quality, evidence-based, and culturally appropriate. Supporting People with Cancer is an annual program aimed at promoting equity in cancer outcomes and experiences for all Australians. This includes a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other priority population groups identified in the Australian Cancer Plan. Grants are available through two streams: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and community organisations. Applications opened on 9 December 2024 and close on 20 February 2025.
