We Need to Fix Construction Productivity—Now. Australia needs 1.2 million homes by 2029—but at our current pace, we’re falling drastically short. The real problem? Construction productivity has been in freefall for decades. 📉 53% drop in physical productivity over 30 years 📉 12% decline in labour productivity while the rest of the economy grew 49% Planning reforms help, but if we don’t fix how we build, we won’t hit the target. One-sided race to the top: The High Court of Australia last week made it easier for apartment owners in NSW to make defect claims against developers and builders - by making it harder for developers/builders to pass on liability to subcontractors & consultants. A good outcome for owners Clyde & Co's James Rigney said; lawyer Bronwyn Weir agreed and said it would raise costs for the industry. Urban Taskforce Australia CEO Tom Forrest said the transfer of risk to developers was a 'significant problem'.
