Awesome article David! I think the most relevant for everyone and not just those who think about possible redundancies, is to 'continually update your skills'. I know with David who works in IT, he is constantly doing courses (I'm talking every week). In the funeral celebrancy world that I worked in for 22 years, I constantly did courses on something that improved my knowledge (although not every week lol).... Too many people receive a qualification and get some experience and think that's all they have to do, whereas that should just be the start of their learning/working experience.

A big thank you to Steve, Lambro, Daniel, Sara and the Maras Group for the invite to the Adelaide Economic Development Agency 2024 Business Forum today. A wide variety of speakers on topics important to our CBD and State. Too many takeaways and insights to mention but a few that stood out for me were: 💻 Professor Simon Lucey's comments on the "critical mass of AI talent" we have in #Adelaide and the FOMO multinationals have who don't have easy access to our talent. 👩‍🚀 Dave Mackenzie's comment that "AI won't take people's jobs, it's the people who know how to use AI that will take the jobs." Hint: get on board people - especially SME's #LeanIn 💰 Australia has top notch research output but we struggle to commercialise technology - mainly due to a lack of access to capital/funding (Adrian Johnston) 🏘 We need more clusters of "employment land" - build housing near where people work. (Ben Parkinson) In the western suburbs/Osborne near defence jobs springs to mind for me. 👜 As someone who believes in being brand led I was inspired by the presentation from Philip Corne, former CEO, Louis Vuitton Australia and New Zealand, on luxury retail. Luxury brands sell a dream, have a brand first mindset, and an obsessive focus on customer experience. 🛍 Tourists shop when they travel and expect to find a luxury shopping precinct in a major city. Adelaide's CBD is long overdue for a luxury precinct. Is the south side of North Terrace, our cultural boulevard, the perfect spot? Tiffanys certainly think so. ⚾ According to MyVenue founder, Tim Stollznow, Adelaide is a founder's paradise with everything a start up needs to succeed - "we're in the Goldilocks zone". As Tim said, businesses can make their own luck if they work hard and are disciplined. What was your most memorable #AEDASummit2024 moment? BlinkLab Limited Chairman, Brian Leedman, opens up about the new partnership between Blink Lab and Turning Point Autism Foundation on ausbiz. The collaboration is centered on a clinical study in children with autism in the United States. Armed with proprietary technology, Blink Lab is bringing disruption to the field by employing smartphone-based #AI technology that diagnoses #autism in children as young as 18 months. An impressive departure from the conventional diagnoses age bracket of five to six years, facilitated by a special reflex response test. The technology gaining momentum in the conversation is an offshoot from Princeton University in New Jersey. The innovative product is significantly revolutionising healthcare and yielding an impressive performance on the ASX listing since its debut barely a month ago. Brian shares their imminent plans to commence an FDA registration study in the second half of the current year, with the assistance of the Turning Point Autism Foundation, a reputable Illinois-based institute. Looming debates about Blink Lab's game-changing trials are concluded. The best-case scenario is to validate the precision of their disruptive technology, boasting an astounding sensitivity and specificity rate of 85 and 84 percent, respectively. Another #TEAM Tuesday post spotlighting one of the many wonderful Sporting Facilities and Sporting Clubs across Lake Macquarie City. The new-ish Cooranbong Park Sports Complex. My middle son has just finished his first season playing soccer with @southernlakesunitedfc. What a cracker of a season it's been and a joy to be a part of such a great little club and sporting community in Cooranbong. My family and I are big fans of team sport! My husband has been coaching a basketball team for years and I have both managed and played in a women's football team in seasons past. Team sport has so many benefits outside of the obvious advantages of increased physical fitness. Knowing that you're accountable to other people means you show up on time, for your team... win and lose as a team. So many life lessons and opportunities for personal growth operating and functioning within a team. I think it's important to note and acknowledge all the unsung heroes and the hundreds of volunteers who work behind the scenes - including the volunteer coaches and managers who make it possible for our clubs to operate and children and families to be able to participate in team sport across the region. HEALTHY relationships and NAILING TEAMWORK isn't always easy. WORKING WITHIN A TEAM has its natural challenges... we all bring our personalities, needs, interests and varying beliefs to the party. Some are more naturally inclined towards team activities. Others aren't. But as the saying goes - "it takes two to tango". So even if you don't necessarily see yourself as a "TEAM" person... any and every relationship requires a TEAM approach. Learning the art of communication and working together is a vital skill each and every one of us can continue to grow in. The learning for me certainly never stops. How about you? A brilliant recent comment from Manawatū Business Chamber CEO Amanda Martin-Linsley: "I believe business resilience can be a learned behaviour. It’s an ongoing process that requires sustained effort and commitment. It becomes a strategy for business growth when businesses identify opportunities during disruptions and adapt business models to emerge stronger. Steve Davey, chairman of #Manawatū Business Chamber, recently wrote on LinkedIn with regards to business attitude and the phrase that has been popularised recently, ‘’survive to 25’’. Essentially it suggests businesses hunker down until next year and just get by. Steve challenged that from a business perspective, this doesn’t make sense and instead has the philosophy that if you’re not moving forward, you’re going backwards. This aligns with what we are hearing from businesses here in the Manawatū. While some may not have an alternative, many are using the time to move forward and stay ahead of the competition."... The Albanese Labor Government has delivered on our commitment to support First Nations arts and the Australian literature sector with new legislation passed by Parliament today. The Creative Australia Amendment (Implementation of Revive) Bill 2024 continues our Government’s reinvigoration of the arts by establishing First Nations Arts and Writing Australia. These two new parts of Creative Australia will invest in and grow First Nations arts practice and Australia’s literature sector – delivering on commitments in Revive, Australia’s national cultural policy. First Nations Arts and Writing Australia will sit alongside Creative Workplaces and Music Australia, both of which are already up and running and delivering support for Australian artists, arts workers and organisations. The creation of First Nations Arts recognises the crucial place of First Nations stories at the centre of Australia’s arts and culture. Self-determination is important – it means supporting First Nations artists and organisations to tell their stories. First Nations Arts, together with its governing First Nations Board, will allow for autonomy over investment decisions and enhance opportunities for First Nations artists and arts workers. Writing Australia will provide greater investment and support to our writers, illustrators and publishers, who have been historically overlooked and underfunded. That changes now. First Nations Arts will receive up to $52 million for First Nations Arts over the next four years from 2024-25 to support and promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts practice, enhance sustainable career pathways for young First Nations people in the arts and increase opportunities to grow First Nations audiences. It will be overseen by the First Nations Board, which will allocate funds to support and invest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and promote best practice in First Nations cultural protocols and principles. Writing Australia will receive over $26 million for Writing Australia over three years from 2025-26 to strengthen the Australian literature sector and develop further markets and audiences, here and overseas. Through targeted investment and the development of national industry initiatives, it will increase opportunities for authors, illustrators and publishers to create new works, tell new stories and establish a poet laureate for Australia. It will be overseen by the Writing Australia Council. First Nations Arts will commence later in 2024. Expressions of interest for the First Nations Board are now open and can be submitted at the attached link. Writing Australia will commence on 1 July 2025.

I recently listened to a fascinating interview about our ageing population between Bernard Hickey and Treasury chief economic adviser Dominick Stephens. A major takeaway for me is the big trend for New Zealanders to remain in paid work beyond 65. Dominick said 50% remain in paid work between 65-69 years, with 25% (from memory) remaining in paid work between 70 and 74 years – with this likely to increase, particularly for women who have remained connected to the workforce throughout their lives. Two reasons for this percentage being higher in New Zealand than in other countries are: ✅ New Zealand's universal superannuation (no abatements are imposed related to other income); and ✅ New Zealand's legislation protecting people's right to choose when they retire (people can't be required to retire at 65). Not sure what Sky are doing. As Buckingham Palace report King Charles’ encouraging recovery progress, SkyNews Australia report “Concerns over King Charles are growing as the Monarch’s health is reportedly progressively deteriorating.” Their source? The Daily Beast. The evolution, ( some would say decay) of media fact-checking and source-dependence, together with the disinformation epidemic now poisoning social media, really has made reliable truth and dependable information increasingly hard for the public to find. This also raises the question of why SkyNews Australia. Do the media these days tend to feed the public news and angles they think they will welcome, rather than news they think may be the truth? And do Sky think a negative story about the King’s health would play better in Australia? Or is it just random news management ?
