There is an organisational cancer that is being perpetuated in social media concerning workplace relationships. This sad narrative goes against the grain of team building, team bonding and healthy camaraderie in workplace culture. Now everyone celebrates not being friends with their teammates, not wanting to be in the workspace and seeing our leaders as the source of our life's problems. My testimony is different. I build and sustain relationships. I work alongside FRIENDS. I know their parents, spouses and children. I know their favourite food. I know those who go to bed late and I know the early risers. I know their religious background, default genre of music and movies. I know the people on my team. Building healthy relationships is part of part antidote for strong workplace culture. Excellent article from the eminently readable Josh Bersin - one of those who can do the deep work on analytics and make the info stick in people minds. The section about the critical activities was particularly interesting - with leadership development the clear winner when it came to HR priorities. It stands to reason that many aspects of reactive HR work can be reduced through the actions of capable, confident leaders and managers. Meaning HR can devote more time to the work that builds value and deepens organisational culture and engagement. To get to that point though, you need HR professionals who can work with your managers to coach and enable, navigate risk and maximise opportunity. Celebration was a recurring theme in many of my client engagements this year—or more accurately, the lack of it. Time and again, I worked with leaders and teams who struggled to acknowledge their own achievements fully. The truth is there’s no “right” way to celebrate. Whether it is a simple pause or a big splash, what matters is recognizing the impact of your accomplishments. Celebration is not just about the moment—it reduces burnout, boosts engagement, and fosters a sense of purpose. For organizations, it can even increase client acquisition and strengthen culture. This year, I coached leaders to embrace their wins by: 🎉 Sharing in a meaningful way – Give others the opportunity to be part of your celebration. 🎉 Reflecting on the achievement’s meaning – Consider the impact: What changed? What was gained? 🎉 Pausing to see the big picture – Instead of moving on too quickly, savor the moment and place it in the broader context of your journey. I will be the first to admit, creating a practice of celebration is not always easy. It does not always come naturally to me, either. In fact, I have fallen into the “not-sharing trap” myself. This fall, I successfully completed the Leadership Coaching for Organizational Performance (LCOP) program at American University. The teaching from this program deeply enriched my work and the way I show up for my clients. While I celebrated, I did not pause, reflect, and acknowledge this accomplishment fully. This became clear as I worked through my end of year review. So, I want to celebrate and share this important milestone with you. Here is your reminder: When you reach a milestone, take the time to reflect, share, and savor it. You’ve earned it, and the world needs more celebration. 🚀 Taking the Leap from Corporate Comfort to Consulting Chaos! 🚀 After spending 15+ wonderful years in comfortable corporate roles, where my 8 to 4 (even 7.30 to 2.30 sometimes) routine allowed me a fantastic work-life balance, I recently made a bold move. I swapped stability for the exhilarating journey of consulting life with Korn Ferry! This shift from managing responsibilities within a predictable structure to juggling multiple projects, engaging with various CEOs, and constantly being on the move (yes, living out of a suitcase!) has been nothing short of a whirlwind. 🌪️ The transition from the senior most consultant role within the Dubai government to the dynamic, fast-paced environment at Korn Ferry has been both challenging and exciting. It’s a world where every day offers a new learning opportunity, a chance to solve diverse problems across multiple countries rather than focusing on a single entity. I won't lie—there are days I question my decision. The long hours and endless travel are a stark contrast to my previous life. But here’s the thing: taking this leap of faith into unknown waters has not only added a significant feather in my cap but also reinforced my courage to embrace change and face uncertainties head-on. So, I pose this question to all of you: Would you dare to disrupt your comfortable routine to test uncharted waters? Is the promise of growth worth the inevitable disruption? Insightful discussion on leveraging AI to drive data-informed decision making in HR I had the pleasure of moderating a panel of International HR leaders on the topic of "Hacking HR Data and AI" ( at 1am Australian time). The panel had a good mix of speakers from different regions – the United States, Europe, and India – providing a diverse global perspective on the use of AI in HR. The panelists, all experts in HR and people analytics, discuss the benefits and challenges of using AI for tasks like recruiting, performance reviews, and promotions. They highlight the need for AI to complement human judgment, discuss the importance of data privacy and security, and explore how AI can help mitigate bias in HR processes. The panelists also discuss the importance of integrating AI into HR decision-making, emphasising the need for clear data strategies and executive buy-in. A few key takeaways: * Align AI strategy with business goals. As Manisha Gupta emphasised, it's critical to "know your why" - understand how AI can directly support your organisations priorities and challenges. * Upskill HR teams in data and AI. Rishi Jain advised HR professionals to take data analysis courses to build their skills. Hr stressed the need for a clear AI adoption strategy to get the whole team on board. * Balance AI insights with human judgment. Andreas Kyprianou and Njsane Courtney, MBA, SHRM-SCP cautioned against over-relying on AI, noting the importance of maintaining the "human element" in areas like performance management and employee engagement. * Use AI to uncover hidden biases. Manisha Gupta and Andreas Kyprianou shared how AI can help identify biases in processes like promotions and reviews that may be invisible to the human eye. * Leverage AI for proactive talent management. Krissana Wallace, MSHRD discussed using AI-powered attrition prediction models to get ahead of retention issues before they become costly problems. The key is to take a strategic, business-focused approach to AI in HR - using the technology to enhance human decision-making and drive tangible improvements in talent and organisational performance. As recent data shows, the United States—a global leader in DEI thought leadership—is experiencing a significant shift in attitudes toward diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). With trends like anti-DEI legislation, leadership homogeneity, and a decline in DEI commitments, it's worth considering the potential impact here in Australia. History has shown that changes in the U.S. often ripple across borders, and DEI may be no exception.
