Amazon Web Services (AWS) unveils launch customers for $7.5bn Auckland cloud region data centre https://lnkd.in/gj244nSB One New Zealand and Vector Limited will be the first customers hosted in the new facility, AWS confirmed to Reseller News during its annual re:Invent conference this week. AWS partner Datacom will also be hosting some of its customers in the new region from launch. Next up we have the crazy and always hilarious Paul McCarty. Paul will he presenting "Repo Swatting: How to delete anyone's source code repository anonymously". Paul will discuss a new attack called Repo Swatting identified in major SCM providers including GitHub, GitLab, and Gitea. He identified the attack and theorized that it could be weaponized to take developer resources offline. He was correct. Swatting is a terrible practice as it allows malicious attackers to target unsuspecting, innocent people by using law enforcement as a directed weapon. In recent years, vulnerable legacy enterprise networks have migrated to full cloud solutions to improve security, scalability, and functionality. However, this shift has often come at the cost of data sovereignty and data lifecycle ownership. I am confident that, eventually, we will need to consider a mix of data sovereignty solutions and offshore computer processing. A likely return to edge computing, which emphasises local data storage and enhanced protection, is on the horizon. I look forward to helping our customers diversify their computing storage and processing capabilities by shifting from cloud computing to edge computing. Let’s see how this plays out!

Q: What are CIOs’ Top 2025 Priorities? A; Closing the "Expectations Gap" and Driving Tech Literacy As we head into 2025, and having read Gartner's Report and speakign with CIOs in Australia, it’s clear that CIOs have two critical gaps to address: 1️⃣ The Expectations Gap Only 36% of CEOs and 47% of tech leaders believe IT is delivering value effectively (IBM). Meanwhile, 48% of digital initiatives fail to meet business outcome targets (Gartner). - Rebuilding trust in IT means: a) Transparency: Show where IT dollars are going and why. b) Stakeholder Involvement: Include business leaders in decision-making. c) Clear ROI: Prove the value of IT investments at every level, from teams to departments. It’s time for CIOs to move from meeting expectations to exceeding them. 2️⃣ The Tech Literacy Gap It’s not enough to roll out new tools...users need to know how to make them valuable. One CIO put it perfectly: "Our job isn’t done when the app is installed; it’s done when users are creating value with it." For 2025, CIOs should: a) Customise Training: Cater to all tech skill levels, from resistant users to power users. b) Engage Creatively: Think hands-on, interactive sessions, not just manuals. c) Foster Curiosity: Build a culture where employees feel empowered to learn and innovate.
