It's always very transfixing watching our Aerosint depositing powder layers 👀 This process differs massively from normal powder deposition in LPBF and can result in 3D-printed parts with multiple alloys in different places. 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 🎆 The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University and their Center for Innovative Materials Processing through Direct Digital Deposition (CIMP-3D) is pushing the envelope for additive manufacturing with the introduction of a Selective Powder Deposition (SPD) module that is integrated into a laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) system💡 Multi-material laser powder bed fusion (MM-LPBF) - which can deposit three different powders within a single layer at 300 µm2 resolution - delivers extreme design advantages by merging the proven design flexibility of LPBF with power of spatially-tailored materials 🤝 Imagine advanced heat exchangers that integrate high-conductivity copper fins into a structural rigid stainless-steel enclosure.  Or rapid, single-step manufacturing of pipe fittings that integrate a corrosion and erosion resistant liner into strong, tough, and lightweight body 🤔 At the Danish Technological Institute, we work with 'regular' laser powder bed fusion systems, but we constantly push the boundaries of these with e.g. new parameter sets, just as we are always researching new AM technologies ... and this here is definitely interesting ✅   Read the CIMP-3D article 👉 https://lnkd.in/dSreTxWq #3Dprinting #additivemanufacturing  

🔬 Additive Manufacturing Meets printed electronic Sensors: ACES Project Closure 🔬 CRM Group has successfully completed the ACES project (Additively manufactured Components with Embedded Sensors), a collaborative research initiative funded by Win4Collective (Wallonia Region). 🚀 Through this project, we demonstrated our expertise in surface preparation for 3D-printed metallic objects produced by Selective Laser Melting (SLM). One of the main objectives and original approach was to integrate printed sensors directly onto these surfaces to enable real-time structural health monitoring. 💡 What we achieved: ✅ Improved surface treatment for rough & porous SLM-produced objects ✅ Successful integration of 3D printed sensors (Thermocouples, RTD, Strain & RFID) ✅ Development of unusual high-temperature printed sensors capable of operating close to 1000°C ✅ IoT-enabled wireless monitoring system for remote data collection This innovation opens doors to smarter, more reliable industrial components, particularly in high-performance environments. Exciting news! I am thrilled to share that my first article for my PhD has been published! You will find it in the journal “Additive Manufacturing Letters” with the title “Influence of the laser strategy on bi-metallic interfaces printed via multi-material laser-based powder bed fusion”. In this paper, different laser scan strategies were applied on bi-metallic vertical interfaces deposited by a Schaeffler Aerosint multi-material recoater. I hope the interesting results provide some valuable insights for further research in the field of multi-material PBF-LB! I would like to thank my co-author and supervisor Prof. Eric Jägle, as well as the journal’s editorial board and reviewers for their contribution.
