We've updated our Carbon Removal Policy Tracker to include the Clean Industrial Deal. There's a lot set to come out as a result of the CID, so make sure you keep an eye on it. You can start by checking it out here: https://lnkd.in/eXEv_6BR

Last week we hosted multiple discussions combining EU policy and CDR practice. Watch our recap here👇 Conversations were fruitful; policymakers asked questions, we discussed key policy frameworks, and MEPs left with growing appreciation for the importance of carbon removal in boosting a net zero economy. In the words of Ana Vasconcelos, co-host of one of the workshops "Today's event and exhibition highlight how market-oriented solutions, innovations, and technology, are shaping the way for a sustainable future." Along with our partners Negative Emissions Platform, we are working to make sure carbon removal is in the room where it happens. We are not throwing away our shot! Carbon removal is more than economising emissions, it's about building a dynamic economy. Two events last week showed a clear economic case for boosting these technologies. With MEPs gathering for an exclusive event in the European Parliament and the publication of the SBTi's Corporate Net Zero Standard consultation, Lydia Loopesko breaks down why carbon removal is having a bit of a moment.

We CC-U, over there, confused about capture and storage technologies. Here's a quick guide to clarify the difference between CCU, CCS & CDR👇 ✈️ CCU - carbon capture and utilisation - carbon is captured and reprocessed, but ultimately reused. Emissions are reduced but still net positive. 🏭 CCS - carbon capture and storage - carbon is captured and stored. Emissions are avoided, so the result is net neutral. 🌳 CDR - carbon dioxide removal - carbon is removed directly from the atmosphere and stored. There are no resulting emissions and the process is net negative. In the case of biomass, the carbon from plants and trees is burned (creating emissions) that are then captured and stored, but since the carbon originally came from the atmosphere through photosynthesis, the whole process is net negative. To reach net zero, positive emissions will need to be compensated by negative ones (CDR). Ergo, without carbon removal there is no net zero. We brought policymakers, experts and industry leaders together at the Parliament last week; let us give you a rundown of what happened. Two key observations stood out: ▫️ First, there was broad agreement on the need to weave carbon removals more firmly into climate and industrial policy, with the next five years seen as make-or-break. ▫️ Second, policymakers showed a sharper grasp of CDR’s potential and challenges — and a growing willingness to reflect this in upcoming legislation. “Accelerating a competitive green transition is key to reaching Europe’s climate and competitiveness goals,” said Ana Vasconcelos, reflecting on the event. “Let us surpass pointless false dichotomies such as choosing between the economy and the environment and focus on prioritising innovation.” Read more in our recap blog by Senior Policy Analyst Anna Costova: https://lnkd.in/e5SXEQEi And you, what aspect of CDR policy would you attract the attention of the Parliament on? How can we assess a country's CDR potential? With a little help from those of you actually doing it! Help us understand your resource requirements to help us estimate country-level scaleability https://lnkd.in/eZgtnyS3 We're partnering with RMI to develop the next phase of our National Carbon Removal Readiness Assessments, which are comprehensive reports that help align carbon removal deployment with an individual country's goals, policies and available resources.
