18 months of negotiations later: the agreement has been signed! An agreement on the promotion of diversity and inclusion for 120,000 Veolia workers in Europe. A point close to my heart, we have included the right to two new leaves of absence, paid at 100% for victims of violence at work and of domestic violence. But also rights, support and promotion of gender equality, LGBTQ+ workers, workers with disabilities, Roma and the fight against all discrimination. It was not a straightforward nor an easy negotiation, but we never gave up, and we

Today, the European Parliament will vote on the EU #TalentPool proposal. We join ETUC's call for reconvening discussions in EMPL & LIBE committees to improve the text to align with trade unions' demands. EPP Group in the European Parliament, Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament, Renew Europe, The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament, The Left in the European Parliament
Today the European Parliament will vote on the EU #TalentPool proposal. European trade unions reiterate refusal of this proposal as it completely ignores that many of “shortage occupations” belong to labour intensive, low pay and working conditions, and/or fraud sensitive industries, such as construction, health and social care, food, agriculture, hospitality and transport. The solution to tackle labour shortages lies primarily in improving pay and working conditions for all workers. EU labour migration policies should be based on full respect for labour, trade union and social rights and on equal treatment, as well fair recruitment procedures. ETUC calls for reconvening discussions in EMPL and LIBE committees to improve the text to align with trade unions demands. Regularising migrants residing in the EU & establishing safe, regular channels for asylum, while allowing labour migration pathways based on trade union rights and effective social dialogue in both sending and receiving migrant countries.

📣 Yesterday, NGO workers joined the national strike in #Belgium, marking the first NGO picket in recent years. 🗣️ "NGOs are here not because they are looking at themselves, they are here as citizens because #Arizona's plan will affect pensions, maternity and paternity leave, unemployment benefits [...] Also, we know that many people, particularly in the NGO sector, will be made redundant in the next months." 🗣️ "Many European NGO workers are non-Belgian and sometimes feel that whatever the Belgian Government does does not concern them. This is incorrect. Anyone can experience unemployment, even for a short period." All social spending cuts affect us - we're standing against Arizona's social desert! Read the first-hand NGO workers' insights on The Brussels Times 👇🏾

📣 New #agreement between EPSU and #Veolia! This agreement brings binding protection on diversity and inclusion protection for more than 1️⃣2️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ workers in 1️⃣7️⃣ countries! The agreement introduces several critical rights, including: ▪️Fully paid leave for victims of workplace and domestic #violence. ▪️The right to refuse relocation to a country where #LGBTQ+ rights are restricted. ▪️A zero-tolerance policy on #discrimination. ▪️A dedicated budget to address #genderpaygap. ▪️Measures to improve workplace accessibility and career support for disabled workers. ▪️Recruitment initiatives to promote #diversity, including for Roma workers. ▪️An oversight committee to ensure commitments are upheld and enforced. “At a time when #diversity and #inclusion are under attack, this agreement proves that strong unions and #socialdialogue can deliver real, enforceable changes - not just corporate promises,” says Paola Panzeri, EPSU Deputy General Secretary. “We now expect local management to fully implement these commitments and ensure real change for workers on the ground.” EPSU and its affiliates will ensure this agreement is fully implemented and will continue pushing for stronger protections for public service workers. Trade unions are essential in holding multinational companies accountable and ensuring that workplace #equality is more than just a slogan.
