Creating digital products is not about solving immediate problems—it's about building responsibly, with an eye toward long-term impact and sustained growth. Recently, I had the honor to take the stage at Product Day and share some guiding principles for designing innovative and sustainable products. Here are the four principles I shared: 1️⃣ Master the market: Stay on top of evolving trends, customer needs, and competitors. Insight fuels anticipation and adaptability. 2️⃣ Build for longevity: Prioritize resilience over quick wins. Design for lasting relevance. 3️⃣ Take accountability: Embrace mistakes and shifts. Transparency and learning build trust and long-term success. 4️⃣ Simplify complexity: Cut through inefficiencies. Deliver clear value with minimal friction. 💬 How do you approach building products for long-term success?

Much like building a bridge, product management , hinges on striking a delicate balance between visionary ideas (idealism) and practical execution (pragmatism). This equilibrium is not just a concept, but a critical factor in creating real value. 🌟 Idealism sets a long-term product vision but can lead to delays and overambition without grounding. 🔧 Pragmatism ensures feasibility and short-term wins, but when taken too far, it can impede innovation. To bridge the gap: • Set a bold vision and prioritize ruthlessly: break ambitious goals into practical, high-impact steps. • Test lots and know thy user: Test ideas quickly to ensure your vision aligns with real needs. How stable is this bridge in your product strategy? #ResponsibleProductManagement #Nolum #ProductStrategy #BrooklynBridge

Most people think success in product management means tackling the most manageable tasks first and building from there: ❌ It seems logical. ⚠️ It can appear efficient. 🔄 It doesn’t seem risky. But in reality, product management—is just like trying to make a monkey stand on a pedestal and recite Shakespeare, where the majority will try to build the pedestal first and then deal with teaching the monkey how to do the trick. If the monkey doesn't learn, your pedestal is obsolete—teaches you that: ⇢ Identify and tackle the riskiest assumptions, whether a technical hurdle or market validation. ⇢ Fix the most uncertain elements before moving to what you’re confident about. ⇢ De-risking your product by tackling complex aspects is a strategy to prevent costly failures in the future. ⇢ This approach strengthens your problem-solving skills and ensures you build the right product for the right audience. ⇢ Starting with complex issues enhances your team’s adaptability and resilience. Product management is, by definition, about solving complex problems, so don’t start with the easy wins—begin with what carries the most risk and potential impact. Mastering critical technical features, user adoption, or market fit will ensure sustainable success. #ResponsibleProductManagement #RiskFirst #BuildSmart #ProductStrategy #Nolum

At Nolum, we believe digital inclusion is not just essential, but a cornerstone for sustainable development. It's a powerful tool that goes beyond reducing the carbon footprint, impacting every aspect of our society. In Belgium, 40% of the population is digitally vulnerable, 5% lack internet access, and 35% need more vital digital skills. These numbers underscore the need for inclusive digital solutions. One way we work on this is the following: While working on a digital product, we focus on users and do not make assumptions about how they use digital products. We ensure all types of users are represented and considered in the process. There's always an easy and fast way to make a product more inclusive; product managers can take accountability for it and integrate it responsibly while ensuring business profitability. #DigitalInclusion #ResponsibleProductManagement #ProductForGood #Nolum

🌍 Today is World Environment Day!🌿 On this important day, it is crucial to reflect on how our professional practices can shape a sustainable future. As product leaders and managers, we have a unique opportunity to drive change and make a significant environmental impact through responsible product management. Here are a few tips to help you start today with more responsible product management practices: 1. Eco-friendly Design: Prioritize sustainable design principles that minimize environmental impact throughout their lifecycle. From conception to decommissioning of features and products, every choice matters. 2. Efficient development: Implement processes that reduce waste, follow up on performance metrics, and prioritize lower energy consumption—partner with eco-conscious suppliers where possible and embrace green technologies. 3. Lifecycle Thinking: Consider a product's entire lifecycle. Design for durability and be ready to apply changes to extend its usability and reduce resource waste while still generating value for the right business outcome. 4. Talk to customers/users more: Listen to your customers and educate them about the environmental impact of their usage. Promote sustainable usage and end-of-life options to foster a culture of responsibility. 5. Data-Driven Decisions: Utilize data to identify improvement areas and measure your tech products' environmental footprint. Set and track sustainability goals alongside your OKRs to ensure continuous progress. By integrating some of these principles, we can create products that meet market needs and contribute to a a better future. Let's use our roles and start with small actions. It always will add up in the end. 🌱 Every decision counts—every tech-based product matters too. #WorldEnvironmentDay #Sustainability #ResponsibleProductManagement #GreenTech #CircularEconomy #Nolum
