🚨 Misconceptions can be life-threatening    1 in 10 men (vs 1 in 16 women) in Belgium believe there’s not much they can do to prevent cardiovascular diseases. But the reality is quite different.    When asked about the main causes, Belgians point to smoking, obesity and high blood pressure. Yet, they underestimate a key factor: the lack of physical activity, which is crucial for a healthy heart.    A survey conducted among 1,000 Belgians by iVOX on behalf of Novartis early 2025, demonstrates that 60% of Belgians don’t move enough, and this sedentary lifestyle has serious consequences. Every year, in Belgium, 1,200 deaths could be prevented with just a bit more exercise, according to professor Raf Van Gestel's calculations based on data from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME).   To raise awareness about the importance of heart health and addressing cardiovascular risk factors including physical activity, we are proud to be the health partner of the European Running Championships (Brussels-Louvain Marathon) on April 12-13, the first major running event of the year.    💡 Moving means gaining healthy years and quality of life. The implementation of the RLT action plan is becoming more and more concrete, with its first substantial advancements being realized. This week, key stakeholders gathered to discuss the progress being made. They also focused on the next steps in ensuring healthcare system preparedness and patients having effective access to this innovative and targeted treatment, as well as how to solidify Belgium’s leading role in the RLT field. It’s only by working together we can improve patient outcomes. 💪 Also, the new coalition agreement approved this week acknowledges the importance of RLT.
