Celebrating #WorldWaterDay with a commitment to sustainable port operations! 🌊 At Port of Antwerp-Bruges, water is at the heart of our operations. As a leading port, we are committed to safeguarding our waterways while driving innovation and sustainability. Our ambitions are aligned with the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters" and focus on three major topics: ✅ Navigable docks at all times – maintaining sufficient water levels to guarantee safe and efficient vessel access. ✅ Sustainable water use – encouraging responsible water consumption and disposal among (industrial) companies operating in the port. ✅ High water quality – preserving the ecological balance and ensuring clean and healthy docks. By integrating cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices, we aim to reduce our environmental footprint, enhance operational efficiency and foster stronger connections with our local communities. On World Water Day, we highlight our efforts to preserve and protect our most valuable resource: WATER 💧 Join us in celebrating World Water Day by recognizing the importance of sustainable practices in port operations. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a brighter future for our waterways! About us
Port of Antwerp-Bruges is a centuries-old double gateway to Europe and one of the biggest ports in the world. Follow us for the latest updates on how we’re working hard to become the port of the future, in tune with the world. We are the port authority. This means we play a key role in the port's day-to-day operations, to make it function and grow. We manage and maintain the docks, the bridges, the locks, the quay walls and the land. We’re also responsible for safe shipping traffic there. Apart from that, we provide tugs and cranes, carry out dredging work and promote the #PortofAntwerpBruges at home and abroad. We have a strong focus on the future, with sustainable development, transition and resilience as our top priorities.

Early 2024, we received an unexpected visitor in our port. This cute #puffin hitched a ride on a ship’s deck and journeyed as far as Antwerp. 😍 Fortunately, the little animal was healthy and was released back into the wild after a thorough wash at the Wildlife Rescue Centre Ostend. Each day, hundreds of thousands of tonnes of goods move through Port of Antwerp-Bruges. What happens when that cargo contains other exotic visitors such as spiders or other insects? As the wind blows, so goes the Bow Olympus! 🌬️This week, the chemical tanker of the Norwegian shipping company Odfjell SE underwent a major upgrade at EDR Antwerp Shipyard. The sail developer bound4blue has customised innovative suction sails for the vessel. These are hard sails that harness wind energy to propel the ship. This technology reduces the vessel's emissions and contributes to more sustainable tanker shipping. ♻️ The Bow Olympus will be fitted with four suction sails, each 22 metres long. By the end of the week, the tanker will depart with the new sails for a second maiden trip across the Atlantic. 🌊 More details ⬇️! #SustainablePort #Sails #InnovationIsKey
We’re setting sail! The first Odfjell vessel is all set with four 22-meter-high suction sails 🌊 It’s all in the details, and the final installation stage was completed in just two days. The pioneering endeavor has been a smoothly orchestrated cooperation between our technology team and the crew, sail developer bound4blue, and the EDR Antwerp Shipyard. Now, Bow Olympus will be navigated toward the wind to explore the real-time benefits of wind-assisted propulsion technology. At the end of this week, the 49k chemical tanker will embark on what could be called her second maiden voyage, this time crossing the Atlantic with sails. "Each nautical mile will be thoroughly analyzed in real-time to document the energy-saving effects. We are eager to see that our calculations are confirmed," says VP Technology Erik Hjortland. "The learnings from Bow Olympus will catalyze further decisions as we continue to improve the environmental performance of our current vessels—while also preparing for the next generation of chemical tankers that will be with us till 2050 and beyond." Many thanks to Captain Glenn Skjelbred and his crew, our technology team, our partners at bound4blue and EDR shipyard, integrator and engineering partner Royal Roos BV, and agent Euro Nordic Logistics for a seamless operation. #CrewMember Working on a cruise ship can be intense, and no one knows that better than Luana (29)! Taking a quick break in the Portside lounge in Zeebrugge, she enjoys a rare moment to herself. ☕⏸️ “I’ve been working onboard the MSC Preziosa as a program hostess since October 2024,” says the Brazilian crew member. “With my colleagues, I put together the daily program for guests. 📰 Think of it as a newspaper with some short sections, interviews, and practical info about discounts and events.” Curious about the best part of her job? From 3 to 7 March, a delegation from our port took part in the Belgian economic mission to India. As a key strategic partner, India plays a vital role thanks to its strong industrial capacity, fast-growing economy, and commitment to renewable energy. ♻️ During the mission, GH2 India, Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) and Belgian Hydrogen Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support policy development for hydrogen and alternative energy sources. In addition, we had the honour of hosting several events, including the ‘Excellence Through Sangam’ gala alongside Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT). In the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid, we celebrated the strong partnerships between our two countries and our shared ambitions for a global sustainable future. We are looking forward to more partnerships and would like to thank everyone for their valuable participation during the economic mission. No, we won’t colour all things pink today. That is not what International Women’s Day is about. At all. Sure thing women are, unfortunately, underrepresented in the port business. Do we want more women in nautical and technical jobs? Yes! 🙌 Is that easy to achieve? No! 🥺 At the Port of Antwerp-Bruges port authorities, only 15% of over 1000 people working in the operations department is a woman. Not unlogical when you know girls and women are underrepresented in STEM education. So it is not easy to get that figure balanced. Projects such as project Olivia by agentschap Maritieme Dienstverlening en Kust (MDK) try to #AccelerateAction and get things right: https://lnkd.in/enemu4HD. So, women in the port business: Let you be heard! 👇 #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2025 #WomensDay
