imec taps CCD for 3D CXL #memory in data centres 💡 Belgian research lab imec has developed a 3D charge-coupled device that could be used as a replacement for #DRAM in data-intensive #compute applications. The compute express link (#CXL) type-3 buffer memory promises to vastly surpass DRAM in terms of bit density and cost efficiency. This buffer memory is a off-chip pool of memories that feeds the various #processor cores with large data blocks via a high-bandwidth CXL switch. The design, shown at the 2024 IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM) in San Francisco this week, uses 3D integrated charge-coupled device (CCD) #technology adopted from image #sensors combined with an oxide #semiconductor channel material such as #indium #gallium #zinc #oxide (IGZO). This could provide five times the density of existing DRAM buffers. China's National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund reduces holdings in multiple semiconductor enterprises. || On October 15, 2024, Anlu Technology announced that the National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund reduced its holdings by 1% from October 8 to October 11. Since October, the National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund has also reduced holdings in enterprises such as China Electronics Distribution Co., Ltd., Suzhou Guoxin Technology Co., Ltd., and Tongfu Microelectronics Co., Ltd. Multiple shareholders of China Electronics Distribution Co., Ltd. plan to reduce their holdings by no more than 5.0865 million shares due to the need for their own operating funds. The National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund, the third largest shareholder of Suzhou Guoxin Technology Co., Ltd., reduced its holdings by 107,800 shares. It has reduced holdings three times in the past year. Suzhou Guoxin Technology Co., Ltd.'s performance declined in the first half of 2024. Tongfu Microelectronics Co., Ltd. is also planned to be reduced by no more than 3% of its shares by the National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund. This reduction is based on its own operational management needs.

Nexperia Invests $200 Million in #Hamburg #Chip Facility 🇩🇪 #Semiconductors manufacturer #Nexperia announced plans to invest $200 million (appx. 184 million Euros) to develop the next generation of wide bandgap semiconductors (#WBG) such as #siliconcarbide (#SiC) and #galliumnitride (#GaN), and to establish production infrastructure at the #Hamburg site. At the same time, #wafer fab capacity for silicon (Si) #diodes and #transistors will be increased. #Memory Industry Revenue Expected to Reach Record High in 2025 Due to Increasing Average Prices and the Rise of #HBM and QLC, Says TrendForce Corporation 💡 TrendForce 集邦科技’s latest report on the memory industry reveals that #DRAM and #NAND #Flash revenues are expected to see significant increases of 75% and 77%, respectively, in 2024, driven by increased bit demand, an improved supply-demand structure, and the rise of high-value products like #HBM. Furthermore, industry revenues are projected to continue growing in 2025, with DRAM expected to increase by 51% and #NANDFlash by 29%, reaching record highs. STMicroelectronics Maintains Top Spot with 32.6% Market, onsemi Rises to Second Place in 2023 Revenue Ranking for #SiC Power Devices, Says TrendForce Corporation 💡 TrendForce 集邦科技 reports that the SiC power devices industry maintained strong growth in 2023, driven by the application of #BEVs. The top five suppliers accounted for approximately 91.9% of total revenue; ST lead the pack with a 32.6% market share while onsemi rose from fourth place in 2022 to second place. TrendForce’s analysis indicates that demand from #AI #servers and other fields will significantly increase in 2024. However, the noticeable slowdown in the sales growth of BEVs and weakening #industrial demand are affecting the SiC #supplychain. It is expected that the annual growth rate of industry revenue for SiC power devices will significantly decelerate in 2024 compared to previous years. Kickstart the week in California:   Imec's ITF USA not only gave insight's into the next generations of semiconductor packaging but also addressed the topic of women in tech and the environmental impact of the #semiconductor industry. Emily Gallagher of imec beatifully showed: The more processing steps you have in your fab, the more emissions you generate!   Meeting my dear friend Salah Nasri, the man behing International Semiconductor Executive Summits , gave me the opportunity to dive into the buzzling ecosystem of the Stanford University campus. The density of talent and decision makers you can meet here is just breathtaking. Deep discussions about tech, funding, politics all within a couple of hours. It also gave me the opportunity to sneak into a presentation of Sara Spangelo, formerly Swarm Technologies (acq. by SpaceX) now SpaceX X, on how to sucessfully scale and sell a hardware, deep tech #startup! Inspiring!!!!   Now, off to #SemiconWest, where we will present Scrona Ltd.’s third generation of high precision, high throughput multi-nozzle printheads to disrupt micron-scale manufacturing by moving from a subtractive to an additive mode, significantly reducing the necessary processing steps.
