A Home for the Housing Sector
About us
Established in 1968, the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association is a national non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening the social housing sector. CHRA´s mission is to ensure that Canada has decent affordable housing for all. We will achieve this by: * Making housing a priority with Canadians * Convincing governments that housing is a sound investment * Shaping the housing agenda across the country * Helping communities meet housing needs CHRA´s key activities include: The creation and dissemination of affordable housing research — Recent research projects have focused on the long-term affordability of the existing housing stock, and on enhancing the sector´s energy efficiency. Advocacy for improved housing policies and programs — CHRA has influenced recent federal decisions to make mortgage insurance more affordable and to increase funding support for affordable housing development. Enhancing the affordable housing sector´s development capacity — Home energy efficiency, expanding affordable homeownership options, and taking advantage of acquisition and renovation opportunities are among recent areas of focus. Keeping the affordable housing sector connected — CHRA keeps members and supporters connected to each other and to important housing news through a range of national and regional events, including an annual congress, policy symposia, and national “teleforums”, and through a variety of print and online communication vehicles, including Canadian Housing magazine and the monthly Update e-newsletter.

Big thanks to all who came out to today's book club on Carolyn Whitzman's book Home Truths! And a big thanks to Meghan Hollett, one of the amazing HPMP participants for initiating it. At Canadian Housing and Renewal Association and Chartered Institute of Housing Canada (CIH Canada) we are excited to announce that the book club will continue! We will send out open invitations to housers across Canada to read books, discuss them, and wherever possible, have the author in attendance. Set your calendar's for the next book, where we are going to read Ricardo Tranjan's book The Tenant Class. We will gather to discuss it on Friday, April 11th at 11:30am MST. I encourage you to share this information with your networks, and I will be reaching out to see if Ricardo can join us! Please Register in advance for this meeting: https://lnkd.in/gsWpvzJm
