🚨 NEW REPORT from Clean Energy Canada out today that argues Canada's generational housing buildout is a critical moment to ensure new condos include EV charging. 🏢 A third of Canadians live in apartment or condo buildings. In most major cities, that proportion is even higher (Toronto = 40%, Vancouver = 52%). Access to home charging is one of the top factors in determining whether someone will go electric. But many apartment dwellers don't have the option to charge at home. 🌱 Younger Canadians are particularly affected, as they're more likely to rent and live in an apartment. But younger Canadians are also the most inclined to buy an EV for their next vehicle, meaning we're missing out on a key group of next adopters if we don't solve this problem. 💰 Multiple studies show that installing EV charging in new builds is three to four times cheaper than upgrading an existing building. Let's do this right from the start. As governments consider ways to cost-effectively support Canada's EV industry and help Canadians save money on gas by getting behind the wheel of an EV, adding EV charging requirements to the national and provincial building codes should be a top priority. Quebec just released new draft regulations this month that would require all new condos and apartments to be 100% EV ready. It's the only province in the country that has done so.
