Happy Friday! Our team blows me away every day, but especially today. Thank you Leanne Conrad for organizing a talent show for this month’s “Team Jam”. No surprise that the talents of this group expand way beyond sustainability, carbon, energy and climate solutions. We’ve got musicians, woodworkers, beautiful haft sin tables (happy Nowruz!), poets, crafters, dancers, athletes, and above all - stellar people I love working with every day who regularly make me laugh. Entuitive recently celebrated a topping off milestone for Rideau Registry, one of Ottawa’s first purpose-built rental towers by Cadillac Fairview. We were proud to be the structural engineering consultant for the new 21-storey tower, which rises 133 meters above the existing heritage designated City Registry Office building.   A key challenge was constructing around and above the Registry building, which required a carefully phased approach. Senior Associate Gerd Birkle and Intermediate Engineer Ivy Yi Liang led a presentation on "Solving Complex Geometry on Bertram Pedestrian Bridge" at the 2025 Transportation Connects Alberta Conference. Gerd and Ivy highlighted the challenges of designing and constructing the Bertram Pedestrian Bridge in Downtown Kelowna. This multi-use pedestrian bridge will create a safer, more accessible connection over Highway 97 at Bertram Street for people walking, biking, and rolling. Their presentation explored key aspects such as site constraints, solution development, and construction execution. They discussed structural options, including a single-span space truss and a steel through-girder system, as well as innovative design refinements such as optimized slopes, unique railings, and integrated lighting. The Queen St. West site for Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) will house 235 beds, community care clinics, therapeutic spaces, and a secure outdoor area for treatment. As part of the PCL Construction's Partnerships team, Entuitive is providing structural engineering consulting for the Secure Care and Recovery Building, a crucial addition to CAMH’s facilities. This seven-storey building will replace existing facilities for clients with complex mental illnesses who have encountered the legal system. Vaidila Banelis and Queenie Wong visited the Rideau Registry site last week to see the building top-off. Entuitive is under contract with the New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) for Building Envelope Commissioning Services. We recently conducted additional non-destructive water testing (NDT) at P.S. 11 – The Kathryn M. Phelan School to assess the building’s façade performance. Our scope of work included reviewing NDT locations and construction drawings to understand the original design and past repairs, as well as coordinating with the SCA contractor and school custodial staff to schedule fieldwork. Entuitive monitored water spray testing at three façade locations using infrared imaging, digital photography, and moisture meters. Following the testing, our team prepared a comprehensive NDT report with findings, infrared images, and recommendations for repairs and prioritization.
