A few weeks ago, 3Shape reshared a futuristic post of Dr. Edouard Lanoiselee planning an implant treatment. The team from Mindset Global have now shared another video of Dr. Lanoiselee. This time he is remaking a young women’s smile. If you can ignore the video glitches at the start, it’s fascinating to watch Dr. Lanoiselee layout the proposed smile design and scroll back and forth as he simulates the “before and after” treatment. Intraoral scanners and software (digital dentistry) are enabling dentists to work in entirely new ways and have made it much easier and more transparent for patients to decide on if they want a treatment. #digitaldentistry #smiledesign #3Shape

An interesting message from a qualified dentist.. something to start thinking about! “ I had a very interesting conversation with a dentist friend from Canada yesterday and it got me thinking. Well the conversation in brief: My dentist friend "I don't know what to do anymore. Most of the patients who come already are full mouth crowns or have implant retained dentures. I am in a very good community. The crowns are old, so I do see metal exposed or slight open margins but would that be a reason to plan new crowns? Also, I am seeing patients in the age group of 60s with full mouth extractions and having implants. It just upsets me if that's where we are headed, all implants and no teeth?" This conversation got me thinking. Almost every patient in the age group 30 and above I see also has atleast 2 crowns in their mouth. And anyone in the age group of 50 and above, who has few missing teeth comes with paper from another dentist that has an implant retained denture tx planned. I am trained as a Periodontist and now I practice as DMD with special interest in Periodontics in US. My practice has always centered around saving teeth and doing surgeries for bone regeneration, splinting and I still try to do that whenever I can if there is a fair prognosis. Nowadays, I see a lot of patients with grade 2 mobility, aggressive periodontitis just planned for extraction and implants. No consideration or thought is given to save the tooth or reason of bone loss in cases like aggressive periodontitis. My question is: Where are we headed with these full mouth extractions and implants in cases where no consideration is paid to the reason of bone loss?How long will these implants last if there is a pathology that led to the bone loss in the first place, leading to mobile teeth?” #justathought #dentistrydilemmas
