THIS. This is why I do what I do. To understand that while you did not put the program into your subconscious, it's our job to re-program. Our subconscious/habits/paradigms want to keep us 'safe' (whatever that is). So many nuances that impact the ability to achieve goals that we might think it's impossible. It is simple, just not easy. That repetition? Seems like it should be easy, but how often have we tried to instill a new habit - and failed. We didn't fail - we just stopped trying. It is exactly the same as when we learned how to drive a car. We wanted to drive. First time on the road with the instructor - probably not the best sample of our driving life. And yet - here we are, driving. Repetition. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (I can keep this up...) Consider this - what is the last thing you wanted to learn that you were willing to put in the repetition? Now, let's see what that looks like for our BHAGs. What is the thing you want bad enough?

Great little post here about psych safety on virtual teams: https://lnkd.in/ggjecQ9y – As a part of a team that works more than 90% of the year in a virtual setting this has been something we have had to be intentional about as well at Aristotle Performance.   Here are the tips I would add to the article based on my experience: -Drop the formality – teams that are all business all the time struggle to innovate and share ideas that might be “off the agenda”. -Build relationships over a different format – I make regular phone calls. Yes, the phone. I start by saying some version of “how are you – I’m going for a walk – tell me how things are going” I still send along a text ahead of time to make sure I’m not disturbing anyone’s workflow but I make time and I aim to listen. -Don’t overwhelm your team with BS team building – take extra time and go to a comedy show or a tourist attraction when you are on a work trip. We went for an extra 3 days to Saltsburg after working with a German client. Keep it low key and low obligation so the focus is on a natural development of relationships instead of a forced or contrived situation. What tips would you offer from your experience as a leader? ✨ What do you do to “finish strong” with your clients? Many of my coaching clients and programs pause or end at this time of year, so I’ve been reflecting on what “finishing strong” looks like. Endings, even just chapters in the broader journey, deserve to be marked. 📋 This week, I wrapped up with a 1:1 coaching client. As always, I sent a reflection form before our meeting with questions like: How have you grown since we began? How do you feel your growth has benefited you? Which goals or topics were most useful for your development? What do you want to continue working on? 🌟 My client came prepared and eager to share their reflections, plans, and hopes for ongoing growth. It was such a joy to participate and witness this strong finish. 👥 Tomorrow, I'll be helping a team finish strong. With more participants come more layers and complexities, but meaningful closure is equally important. We'll celebrate, consolidate learnings, and challenge ourselves to identify the practices that will sustain and continue building the skills we’ve developed. 🎥 Nick Vujicic's powerful message on finishing strong is a favourite of mine, and I sometimes share his video with my clients. On a recent episode of the Altus Growth Partners' 𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 podcast, I was asked how I got into this work of helping leaders and their teams achieve high performance. Here’s my story. When I was a little kid, I wanted to be an efficiency expert. It’s true. That’s what I would say when people asked me, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I definitely got odd looks from those who expected me to say, “astronaut” or “doctor.” After all, what 5-year-old says they want to be an efficiency expert, right? But I’d look around at schools, sports teams, and stores and see so many inefficiencies. Fast forward to college. I wanted to learn where the leverage points were for changing that and wound up writing a major in organization studies and starting my career in strategy consulting at Bain & Company. After college, I led in a nonprofit, where I saw how human energy makes such a huge difference. 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞. I became addicted to wanting to create organizations where people are actually alive, doing their best work, and efficiently producing great results. 🌞 As summer approaches, it's easy to get caught in the rush to clear our to-do lists. But what if we took the time to truly pause, reflect, and recharge? Some leaders I am working with ‘aren’t sure if they will take a holiday.’ ⛓️ 🖥️ 🙁 What value can pausing bring? 🧘‍♀️ Purposeful pauses integrated into our day-to-day routine are an effective way to tackle challenges and create space for reflection. @JaniceMarturano, writing for @Forbes, suggests they may even be the "key to becoming a mindful leader" (link in comments). A longer pause, to step away and gain perspective, is also helpful. I find that summer is a great time for me to step back, look at things from a rested and hopeful place, and really think about who I will be working with in the fall, what they need from me, and what they can offer each other. 🌟 It's a time to remember that I am more than just my role or my work. I have amazing family and dear friends that I love to engage with. 💖 It’s also a chance to set intentions for the coming year. Each year when I do this, I return refreshed and ready to go—open to the possibilities! 🚀 What do you do to reset or to pause? I'm teaching an open enrollment course for NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) tonight on "Coaching for High Performance." This isn't coaching instruction, per se, but a valuable session on how to infuse coaching into your organizational leadership position. One of the models we use in this class is the "capabilities pipeline." What I like about this is the invitation it offers to ask yourself where you think you excel and where you have room to grow in your professional life. Or: where is the pinch point in your pipeline?  This is a great post. When I think of how this relates to our work around psychological safety the first thing that comes to mind is the degree of psychological safety needed for strategic vs process driven innovation. Although it’s not absolutely true, strategy requires a lot more willingness to suspend judgment when considering various paths forward. Process can often have components that are more predictable. In both cases the ability to innovate requires psychological safety, high standards and a process that includes planned experimentation. Smart risk taking is an art and a science.
