Last month I did a few teacher training workshops with LEARN Quebec on coding. Education is a big part of what I do, and I realized, that might make people wonder. As a game company, why do I spend so much time and effort on education? 🌿 Over the past few months, the USask Sustainability Faculty Fellows 2024-26 have been exploring Embers by Richard Wagamese. His profound reflections have prompted us to pause, think deeply about our teaching, and grow as a fellowship. How might it enrich your relations? One excerpt that resonated with us: "FROM OUR VERY first breath, we are in relationship. With that indrawn draft of air, we become joined to everything that ever was, is and ever will be. When we exhale, we forge that relationship by virtue of the act of living. Our breath commingles with all breath, and we are a part of everything. That's the simple fact of things. We are born into a state of relationship, and our ceremonies and rituals are guides to lead us deeper into that relationship with all things. Big lesson? Relationships never end; they just change. In believing that lies the freedom to carry compassion, empathy, love, kindness and respect into and through whatever changes. We are made more by that practice." Still, they need data and guidance on how to implement it fairly and in ways that reduce inequalities in accessibility. Therefore, identifying areas where both poor accessibility and risk of transport poverty overlap is a key aspect of addressing this challenge effectively. The 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 is a good visualization tool that harnesses data from 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮’𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 (𝗦𝗔𝗠, https://lnkd.in/gcDWjtqa), a national set of indicators that describe how easy it is to reach important destinations from different locations in your community. The dashboard captures these nuances through the SAM dataset, which evaluates access to essential destinations like education, healthcare, employment, groceries, and recreation across various modes of transport (walking, cycling, and public transit). We're excited to announce our next #a11yTO - Accessibility Toronto meetup, "Creating and Sustaining Digital Accessibility Practices," on August 21st from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Microsoft office, 81 Bay St., Toronto, ON. Join us for an insightful evening with our expert panelists: Heather Hepburn: Heather is an accessibility evangelist who kick-started the a11y program at Skyscanner. She is dedicated to embedding accessibility into the culture of the organization, making their products accessible to all and making travel easier for people with disabilities. Heather is also a co-founder of the Champions of Accessibility Network (CAN). Niki Ramesh: Niki leads digital accessibility for CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster. She works closely with research and product development teams to create features that benefit many and address the needs of the disabled community. Niki is CPWA-certified and a technical committee member for Accessible Standards Canada. Wendy Reid: Wendy is the Accessibility and Publishing Standards Lead at Rakuten Kobo. She focuses on digital accessibility and standards for ebooks, audiobooks, mobile applications, and the web. Wendy is a co-chair of the W3C Advisory Board and the Publishing Maintenance Working Group and a member of the Accessibility Guidelines Working Group. They will share their experiences and strategies for embedding accessibility into organizational culture, guiding teams to create more accessible content, and implementing best practices. I think I understand why there are labels like CILANTRO CILANTRO in Canadian bilingual packaging. Even though the Competition Bureau Canada clarifies that in "some cases a product identity declaration is bilingual in and of itself," I can't find a provision in Subsection 6(2) of the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Regulations that says whether this means you can print only one product identity. I guess companies play it safe and print the same thing twice. Besides, companies use packaging templates to just plug in values for the {englishLabel} and {frenchLabel} variables. Changing the template for just one product can cause branding issues and might not be worth the trouble from an information management perspective. What I understand less is why McKenzie Seeds didn't go with the standard French name for the herb, "coriandre."

Our mission is to accelerate the learning of digital technologies and empower under-represented groups to become digital entrepreneurs. We've built a mobile app to identify highly motivated talent and teach them key concepts of modern software development. The app was carefully designed to integrate the state of the art in learning sciences and accelerate the acquistion of skills. Partnership opportunity for CanCode CanCode would enable us to reach under-represented groups across Canada as the content of our mobile app is currently only available in French. We're looking for partner(s) to submit an application to the CanCode funding program in order to fund the translation of all content in english, expand the curiculum to include Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Computer Security as well as help cover the operating cost of the application (e.g cloud fees).

Int'l student enrollment has dropped by 45% in Canada, this is not an overstatement. We all know the int'l higher education market is a critical economic driver, and this decline poses huge risks.
