The Government of Canada is investing in non-emitting energy technologies and upgrading the electrical grid to make clean, affordable electricity options more accessible in communities across Canada. We announced the opening of the expression of interest period for the Indigenous-Led Clean Energy Stream of the Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program. Expressions of interest submitted through this process will provide insights into Indigenous communities’ and organizations’ priorities in advance of a request for proposals in 2025. Earlier today, Asahi Kasei announced the establishment of a new lithium-ion battery separator plant in Canada. Following this announcement, President Koshiro Kudo held a press conference to discuss the details of the new initiative. This marks a significant step in our commitment to the electrification and sustainability sectors. Kudo highlighted in his press conference: "The North American EV market is expected to see substantial growth in the mid to long term. We are not only investing in this initial phase but are also planning for a second and third phase to become the leading supplier of LIB separators across North America, Japan, and Korea. Our goal is to capture over 30% market share in North America." He added, "With our Hipore™ wet process separator, we aim to reach sales of approximately 160 billion JPY (around 1.1 billion USD*). Furthermore, Kudo emphasized the company's commitment to environmental responsibility: "By enabling carbon neutrality, we are committed to fulfilling our group mission of contributing to life and living for people around the world." North America's first Hydrogen CHP system! Enbridge Gas is leading the charge in the energy transition with a groundbreaking pilot project at its Technology Operations Centre (TOC) in #Markham, #Ontario. This initiative is the first in North America and involves collaboration with #2G Energy and CEM Engineering to install a combined heat and power (#CHP) system. This system utilizes emissions-free #hydrogen to #heat and #power the 120,000-square-foot facility, which houses approximately 197 Enbridge employees. Powering Canada Forward: Why We Need a National Energy Transition Authority 🔆   Canada’s clean energy future depends on creating a National Energy Transition Authority (NETA). This central, accountable body would lead, guide, and enforce our path to net-zero.   Building on The Canada Electricity Advisory Council's "Powering Canada: A Blueprint for Success," NETA would: • Boost Competitiveness: Lower energy costs while growing industries like EV manufacturing and hydrogen. • Expand Exports: Position Canada as a global leader in renewable energy and clean tech trade. • Attract Investments: Unlock billions in public and private funding for clean energy projects. • Drive Innovation: Accelerate advancements in grid modernization, energy storage, and clean technologies. • Ensure Accountability: Deliver transparent, measurable progress to Canadians.   How NETA Will Work: • Align federal policies with net-zero targets. • Coordinate interprovincial energy roadmaps and modernize grid infrastructure. • Center Indigenous participation in energy planning and project leadership. • Incentivize industries to adopt clean technologies and innovate.   Without a clear strategy and strong central leadership, Canada risks falling short of its net-zero goals. The electric revolution continues! Manitoba Hydro, the electric power and natural gas utility in the province of Manitoba, is considering deploying an EV charging network. 🤩 The provincial government is moving forward with electrification, recently empowering Manitoba Hydro to operate its own EV charging network. “By adopting new standards and best practices for connecting EV chargers to the grid to ensure the reliability of the charging system, Hydro will give Manitobans the confidence they can use their EVs anywhere and anytime.” This is an exciting step toward expanding the use of electric vehicles!
