RET International
Gemeinnützige Organisationen
We alleviate suffering and catalyze sustainable development, in crises, conflicts and fragile contexts.
Info
RET International is an independent, impartial, non-partisan organisation, with no religious or political affiliation. Founded in 2000 by Sadako Ogata, then High Commissioner of UNHCR, RET's mission has been to address the dire need for education in emergencies in fragile contexts for vulnerable young people affected by displacement. At RET, we are committed to assist communities to meet the educational needs, in the broadest sense, of young people made vulnerable by displacement, violence, armed conflict and disasters. Our programs provide young people with the protective environments and necessary skills to face the threats emanating from displacement, such as violence, recruitment into illegal armed groups, child labour, sexual exploitation or narco-trafficking. Through our interventions, we strengthen communities and transform vulnerable young people into responsible, employable and self-reliant citizens.

Since 2012, RET has directly supported more than 55,765 program participants in DR Congo (20% of them women) through 19 projects. Right now, we’re implementing a multi-year undertaking that is focused on improving the food security and nutrition situation in Ituri and North Kivu, to support peace and inclusive co-existence of conflict-affected populations in that part of eastern DRC. Our team spoke to one program participant about the how the experience has impacted her life. Read her story: https://lnkd.in/dSUZwXbt

RET is giving hope through education in Mbera. Every child deserves a chance to learn, dream, and build a better future. In Mbera refugee camp, too many children have had their education disrupted. That’s why RET is working to bridge the gap—this year, we’ve enrolled 650+ out-of-school children, in our Accelerated Learning Program. But education isn’t just about books and classrooms, it’s about opportunity. It’s about giving children the skills to shape their own futures. We’ve also worked with 2,000 refugee parents, helping them understand the importance of education and ensuring long-term support for their children. Because learning is not a privilege, it’s a right. Let’s stand together and make sure no child is left behind.

How RET & UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency are restoring hope after floods in Niger? As part of the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) initiative, families in Liboré and N’dounga received essential kits to support their well-being and restore normalcy. These kits included buckets, fabric wraps (pagne), shoes, slips, cotton, flashlights, and hijabs, meeting the needs of vulnerable families. The distribution, attended by local authorities, civil protection services, and community leaders, was marked by gratitude and encouragement for continued support from RET, UNHCR, and CIAUD. The symbolic handover brought joy to the beneficiaries, reaffirming the impact of humanitarian aid in restoring hope.

On this World Water Day, let’s unite to protect and sustainably manage water for all. In Mali, RET is empowering vulnerable communities to enhance access to clean water and promote sustainable water management practices, focusing on long-term resilience in the Ségou region. Climate-Adaptive Agriculture: RET collaborates with ALPHALOG to train farmers in sustainable techniques, such as creating bio-pesticides from local materials. These practices improve soil fertility, reduce reliance on chemical inputs, and ensure sustainable farming. Vocational Training: In partnership with organizations like REFOR, RET provides vocational programs, including sanitary plumbing, equipping individuals with the skills to enhance local water systems and livelihoods. Our interventions combine employability, food security, and peaceful community relations, ensuring rural communities can thrive with this vital resource.
