Do you want your Medical Affairs team to improve continuously? Use the power of cross-pollination. Your team is quite likely a diverse group of people with varying levels of knowledge, innovative mindset and experience. You can use this to elevate the whole group by facilitating regular exchange of these superpowers. Some examples are: -have your Medical Advisor discuss their upcoming Advisory Board meeting with the Medical Affairs team and ask questions: Why did she choose this agenda? How is she planning to present the data? How is she going to illicit the best responses from the participants? What follow up has she planned? This discussion will likely induce improvements, making the Advisory Board meeting better, it will make the Medical Advisor more confident at the actual meeting AND it will allow the less experienced members of the group to better understand how it’s done. -have your team discuss their Medical Plans in pairs. Make sure the paired medics are not of the same indication, life cycle, level of experience. Instruct them to ask many questions: “why are you doing this” “what are you hoping to achieve” “why did you choose this particular tactic”, etc. At the end of the discussion, they should be able to explain each others plans (high level). This discussion will help the team members to look at the plans with a fresh view and make them even better, making use of the experience, curiosity and innovation of their team member. Also, they both will learn a lot AND be more aware of the challenges of the other teams. -on a regular basis, have your team members participate in the Brand team meeting of a different team. Their different point of view will make a huge difference and at the same time they will learn. They may even be able to share some thoughts on the team dynamic they have observed 😊. What is important to realise, is that everyone in the team has something to offer. If it is not experience or knowledge, it can be curiosity, innovation or a different point of view. Therefore, your inexperienced team members can teach your oldies a thing or two, just as much as the other way round. I know what you’re thinking: who has time for this, right? They’re busy enough as they are without also having to think about other teams and indications. But with minimal effort and time investment you can get a team that: -is continuously improving -has a great level of trust -is not afraid to ask for help -is more effective and impactful -is aware and invested in what is happening in other teams across the company -is likely to be happier all around   What do you think? #msl #medicalaffairs #pharma

MASH, often referred to as a 'silent disease', presents minimal symptoms, especially in its early stages. As the prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes continues to rise—both significant risk factors for MASH—the number of individuals affected by this chronic disease is increasing. Recognizing and diagnosing MASH can be challenging due to its non-specific symptoms, including abdominal and back pain, fatigue, and weakness. For individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and obesity, the FIB-4 index serves as a potent tool for identifying those with a high risk of liver disease. Early diagnosis is crucial, as lifestyle adjustments like diet and exercise can sometimes effectively halt the progression of MASH and, in certain instances, even reverse early-stage liver damage. 🌍 November is #LungCancerAwarenessMonth, a time to reflect on the global impact of this disease and the strides we're making in its treatment. ➡️Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with over 2 million cases annually. A recent article published in Frontiers in Oncology (November 2024) provides a comprehensive overview of the latest targeted therapies for NSCLC, which have significantly improved the prognosis for patients. Great speaking with Florence Vuichard and Pascal Michel for a story in today's "Schweiz am Wochenende". We talked about medicines people urgently need and sometimes cannot get, because current supplies are in different pack sizes than prescribed or because they are warehoused in different countries from which they cannot be imported due to regulatory hurdles. In my view there would be an easy solution: liberalilze the pharmaceutical supply chain accross borders and agree on prices that reflect the true value of essential generic medicines. We also spoke about the medicines everybody wants but nobody can produce enough of: weight-loss drugs. While this is a unique market situation like I have never seen before, we also need address rising environmental concerns with a dramatically growing number of one-time application devices.
