Watchbird AS has signed a pivotal offset and collaboration agreement with the German defence supplier FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG). The agreement represents a significant step forward in advancing WB´s groundbreaking Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) sensor project and highlights the strategic importance of offset obligations in strengthening Norwegian defence innovation.  The collaboration between Watchbird and FFG has been facilitated by Bertel O. The highly anticipated 2024 S1000D & IPS User Forum opened in Brussels today – bringing together global experts and industry leaders to shape the future of Integrated Product Support. Kicking off the event, ASD Secretary General Jan Pie highlighted the critical role of S-Series specifications in advancing Integrated Product Support across aerospace, defence, and beyond. In his opening remarks, Jan Pie emphasised the importance for seamless communication, collaboration, and system integration in our industries, positioning the S-Series as the cornerstone of these efforts. By breaking down barriers between platforms and enabling systems to “speak the same language,” the specifications enhance interoperability, improve performance, and drive innovation in high-complexity sectors. Jan Pie pointed to the S-Series as a foundation for fostering trust and collaboration between public and private stakeholders, keeping projects on track and ensuring a shared vision of success. 🚀🤝 Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed an agreement with Diehl Defence and MBDA Deutschland to develop Norway and Germany’s 3SM Tyrfing supersonic strike missile. The partnership will help the three companies share decades of missile development experience to create maneuverable long-distance missiles. Diehl Defence CEO Helmut Rauch stressed the importance of combining the companies’ expertise in creating a highly advanced missile. “We are proud having established a team of the best experts of our companies, who complement each other, trust each other and contribute their individual knowledge and skills," he said. MBDA Deutschland is set to introduce the RCM² (Remote Carrier Multidomain Multirole Effector) weapon system at ILA Berlin - Pioneering Aerospace, which will take place from June 5-9. This marks the first public presentation of the RCM², designed for both kinetic and electromagnetic operations to enhance mission success in contested environments. Developed in Germany, the RCM² is adaptable for various mission profiles, featuring capabilities for both short and long-range engagements. It boasts loitering abilities and can operate in GPS-denied environments. The system allows for interactive command transfer among networked operators and is flexible regarding launch platforms and control domains, supporting joint force operations. RCM² can perform sensor-based reconnaissance and provide real-time situational data. As part of the Next Generation Weapon System within the FCAS programme, MBDA collaborates with Spanish partner SATNUS to drive technological advancements in remote carriers. SC-227 / EUROCAE WG-85, Standards of Navigation Performance meeting held on May 9-10 in Denver, Colorado, hosted by Boeing.   Working Groups (WGs) 1 and 2 focused on finalizing public comment closure for DO-236E (Required Navigational Performance (RNP) Minimum Aviation System Performance Standards) and DO-283C (RNP Minimum Operational Performance Standards). Germany's #LBA civil aviation authority this week extended #Volocopter’s production organization approval (POA), clearing the way for the company to start serial manufacturing of its two-seat VoloCity #eVTOL aircraft. The approval announced on Thursday covers two new Volocopter production and hangar facilities at Bruchsal in #Germany that the company built in 2023. The company is busy working towards its objective of achieving EASA type certification for the aircraft this summer, which would make the VoloCity the first eVTOL model to achieve this approval in Europe. Volocopter and partners aim to be ready to operate some commercial passenger-carrying flights in #Paris when the French capital hosts the #2024OlympicGames, which begin on July 29. In case full type certification cannot be achieved in time for that event, Volocopter is working with #EASA, the French #DGAC air safety agency, and airports group #ADP to secure a permit to fly on a limited basis during the Olympics. More progress was achieved this week, when on Friday the LBA gave clearance for its Volocopter Air Services subsidiary to be an approved #training organization with the authority to train eVTOL #pilots. Over the past year, the German authorities have been auditing the company to ensure that its training equipment and materials meet the required standards and are available to deliver the required training for the new pilot license.
